The Smart #1 is expected to launch in Malaysia very soon and there’s a cheaper variant that’s called the Smart #1 Pro. The base variant is expected to be priced from about RM200,000 and here’s a closer look ahead of its official release.
The Smart #1 Pro is essentially a step down below the Smart #1 Premium which has been shown off extensively. While it retains the same 200kW (268hp) electric motor with 343Nm of torque, capable of doing 0-100km/h in 6.7 seconds, there are a couple of sacrifices made to bring the price down.
Unlike the Premium and Brabus versions, the Smart #1 Pro gets a smaller 49kWh LFP battery which has a shorter WLTP-rated range of 315km on a single charge. As a comparison, the Premium model gets a larger 66kWh battery that provides a WLTP-rated range of 440km.
It supports 130kW DC fast charging (10-80% SOC in 22 minutes), however, its AC charging capability has been downgraded from 22kW to 7.2kW. This means a full charge on AC will take about 6 hours.
On the exterior, the Smart #1 Pro loses out on the matrix LED headlamps with Adaptive High Beam. There’s also no auto headlamp levelling, no illuminated front grille and door handle, no luminous side logo, welcome light or even a kick sensor for the power tailgate.
On the inside, there are a couple of downgrades as well. It uses leatherette seats and there’s no ventilated seat function for the front occupants. Also missing is a 10-inch head-up display and it gets a more basic 5-speaker audio system instead of a 13-speaker Beats Audio System.
However, the Smart #1 Pro still retains a panoramic moonroof, wireless charger for your phone and a chiller box inside the armrest. There’s still ambient lighting but the Pro gets a “simple” 64-colour ambient light instead of the “extended” 64-colour ambient light option.
The rest of the vehicle remains pretty much unchanged. You still get rear aircon vents with USB-A and USB-C charging ports for rear occupants, while the rear seats can still slide to expand boot space. The storage situation looks the same as well which also includes a small frunk compartment under the hood.
When it comes to safety, it ticks the same box as the Premium model which includes Level 2 semi-autonomous driving features such as adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, rear collision mitigation support, lane keeping assist, lane change assist and rear cross-traffic alert. However, the Smart #1 Pro loses out on fully autonomous parking, parking emergency brake and autonomous parking assist.
So far there are no exact pricing and launch dates yet, but Smart Malaysia is already accepting bookings for the Smart #1 through its official Hello Smart App.
