Vivo has launched a brand new midrange smartphone in Malaysia, the Vivo V29 5G. It features a notably high resolution display for its price segment, complete with a pixel density higher than the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S23.

Vivo V29 5G Malaysia pricing and availabilty

The Vivo V29 5G will be available for pre-order starting on 21 September, with its first sales happening on 28 September. There will be two storage configurations available for the Vivo V29 5G, and here’s how much they’ll cost:

  • Vivo V29 5G, 12GB RAM, 256GB storage – RM1,899
  • Vivo V29 5G, 12GB RAM, 512GB storage – RM2,099

If you do opt to pre-order the Vivo V29 5G from the Vivo Malaysia eStore or their official stores on Shopee, Lazada and Tiktok, you’ll be able to get free gifts worth up to RM995 which include a year of screen protection, a 1+1 year extended warranty, a complimentary screen protector and protective cover along with a pair of TWS earbuds. Those who pre-order from selected Vivo Concept stores meanwhile will be a free storage upgrade; the participating Vivo Concept stores are located in:

  • Pavilion KL
  • KL East Mall
  • KL Mid Valley
  • Sunway Pyramid
  • Gurney Plaza
  • Johor Mid Valley Southkey

Vivo V29 5G specs

The Vivo V29 5G packs a large 6.78-inch, curved AMOLED display that, unlike its FHD+ rivals, comes with a higher 2800 x 1260p resolution, bringing its pixel density up to 452PPI. That’s pretty high considering its price segment, and in fact comes fairly close to flagships like the Apple iPhone 15 Pro’s 460PPI, while beating others such as the Samsung Galaxy S23’s 425PPI display. The Vivo V29 5G’s display also offers full coverage of the DCI-P3 colour gamut, a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 1300nits.

Under the hood, the Vivo V29 5G is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G system-on-chip that’s admittedly a few years old now. That gets mated to 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage, all of which are kept cool via its ‘Bionic Cooling’ system with a large vapour chamber. It runs Android 13 out of the box, skinned with FuntouchOS 13 over it.

In the camera department meanwhile, the Vivo V29 5G has a triple rear camera setup anchored by a main 50MP, f/1.88 camera with optical image stabilisation. That gets flanked by an 8MP, f/2.2 ultrawide shooter alongside a 2MP, f/2.4 monochrome sensor. Sitting below those three cameras though is Vivo’s Aura Light 2.0, a mini ring light that will offer better illuminated portraits. In front meanwhile the Vivo V29 5G has a 50MP, f/2.0 selfie camera.

Other features of note include a 4,600mAh battery with 80W fast charging, an under-display fingerprint sensor and support for 5G, NFC, Bluetooth 5.2 and WiFi 5. Weighing in at 186g and measuring 7.46mm thick, the Vivo V29 5G will be available in Noble Black and Starry Purple colourways.
