TM has finally unveiled its wireless 5G broadband offering called Unifi Air 5G. Unlike the previous Uni5G Air which was spotted earlier on their website, the official 5G broadband offering appears to come with no speed and data caps.
The Unifi Air 5G plan comes with a SIM + Wireless Broadband bundle for RM149/month on a 24-month contract. TM is bundling a WiFi 6-certified wireless router that can connect up to 30 devices. The Unifi Air 5G service is aimed at users without fibre broadband access and you can activate it at home without extra installation required.
Like U Mobile and Yes 5G, there’s no SIM-only option. The FAQ and T&C also state that the unlimited term is subject to the Unifi Fair Usage Policy.
According to the FAQ, the router is configured to work only with the Unifi Air 5G SIMs and there will be a penalty if you terminate the service within the contract period. Based on the penalty calculation, the 5G router retails for RM1,300 and the penalty is calculated based on the number of remaining months. For example, if you have 5 more months to go, you’ll have to pay ((RM1,300 / 24) x 5 = RM271).
Interestingly, TM will allow you to terminate the contract without a penalty if it is proven by evidence that the 5G network at the location is very bad and congested, or if wrong information was provided by their customer service, consultant, resellers or agents. Termination without penalty is also granted if there’s proven evidence that there’s an element of fraud by their customer service consultants, resellers or agents.
For the price, the Unifi Air 5G is more expensive than Yes 5G’s current offering. The telco by YTL Communications is currently offering its Yes 5G wireless broadband SIM + Wireless 5G router combo for only RM99/month and it comes with no speed cap and no FUP for 5G usage. If you already have your own wireless 5G router, Yes 5G is also offering a SIM-only option without a contract for RM58/month.
Of course, you’ll need to be within Digital Nasional Berhad’s 5G network coverage areas in order to subscribe to Unifi Air 5G. For more info, you can visit the Unifi Wireless Broadband page.
