Malaysia’s newest low-cost carrier, MYAirline, has appointed Zurich Malaysia as its exclusive travel insurance provider to provide guests with an add-on option to insure their trip. Priced from RM25 one way, the MYAirline Travel Insurance (previously introduced as MY Travel Shield) can be purchased together with the flight ticket for a hassle-free, simple and straightforward process.
According to MYAirline, the protection plan from Zurich is a customised travel insurance that covers delayed flights or cancelled trips; lost, damaged or delayed luggage; emergency medical treatment during travel; and COVID-19 benefits. The COVID-19 benefits can be useful if your holiday plans are suddenly interrupted when you tested positive for COVID-19. On top of that, the insurance plan also covers accidental medical expenses up to RM10,000, as well as accidental death and permanent disablement up to RM100,000.
MYAirline CEO Rayner Teo said, “We strive to deliver a product and service that is not ‘just as good’ but that is better. One area which we focus on is customer service experience and reliability, which includes safety. Zurich Malaysia understands our requirements and has the global expertise to provide the best-suited solutions for our passengers. I have confidence that their strategic solutions can propel us forward in our mission to be the preferred and trusted airline, providing safe, reliable, and affordable air travel.”
Commenting on the collaboration, Zurich Malaysia Country Head Junior Cho said, “This is another milestone for us in our effort to create brighter future together with and for Malaysians. We are firm believers of embracing collaboration to widen our touchpoints and provide solutions that meet the needs of Malaysians and offer peace of mind. This is a great opportunity for us to put into action our care for what matters, with a like-minded organisation. We are thrilled to be appointed by MYAirline and look forward to embarking on this exciting journey together.”
Here’s the full list of benefits of the MYAirline Travel Insurance add-on:
When we did a flight search on MYAirline, the travel insurance add-on costs RM26.50 for a one-way trip and RM29.68 for a return trip inclusive of the 6% tax. This is applicable to MYAirline’s current domestic routes within Malaysia. The Certificate of Insurance will be sent to the registered email address provided during the flight booking within one working day.
According to Zurich’s FAQ, the travel insurance is open for MYAirline passengers aged 8 days old and above. Although passengers can purchase the travel insurance on the same day of travel, they encourage passengers to purchase at least 14 days before the travel date to enjoy the travel cancellation benefit. Some benefits such as accidental medical expenses, evacuation, flight interruption, flight curtailment, sports equipment coverage, COVID-19 medical expenses, COVID-19 hospitalisation and COVID-19 death are only applicable if the plan covers your return trip.
For Travel Cancellation, the policy states that Zurich will reimburse the non-refundable transportation expenses, accommodation expenses, ground-tour expenses and costs for Visas paid if you or your family member suffers a serious injury, illness or death within 14 days prior to the commencement of your trip. It will also cover situations if you’re being called for jury service or as a witness in court, or if your home becomes uninhabitable due to a natural disaster or fire within 7 days before your trip.
For flight delays, the insurance will cover delays of more than 6 hours. However, it won’t cover delays due to failure to check-in according to the travel itinerary or if you have been informed about the delay 24 hours or more prior to the original departure time.
At the moment, MYAirline’s route network covers 8 domestic destinations and they operate 30 flights per day. It is flying approximately 5,000 passengers per day in its second month of operations.
