The Ministry of Health has announced today that the Traveller’s Pass will no longer be required for Malaysians returning back to the country effective next Monday, 4th July 2022. According to Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, the move is aimed at easing the arrival of Malaysians as the current health situation is at a satisfactory level.

The Traveller’s Pass is a mandatory pre-departure form that needs to be filled out by travellers entering Malaysia via the MySejahtera app. Travellers must provide their incoming flight, vessel or vehicle number and their local address in Malaysia during the submission.

The Ministry of Health will gradually lift the Traveller’s Pass requirement for other groups such as social pass, student pass and permanent residents in the near future. For now, this exemption is only granted to Malaysian citizens only, and foreigners are still required to apply for the Traveller’s pass.

Besides tracing COVID-19 cases, the feature is also used by the Ministry to monitor other contagious diseases such as Monkeypox.

Malaysia reopened its international borders on 1st April allowing fully vaccinated travellers to enter without quarantine. On 1st May, the government lifted COVID-19 travel insurance and COVID-19 test requirements for fully vaccinated travellers and children aged 12 years and below.

Malaysia’s daily COVID-19 cases have been hovering around the 2,000 mark in the past week. Meanwhile, the number of hospital admissions, ICU cases and deaths are at its lowest levels in the past 6 months.
