The Sony Xperia Z1 features tempered glass for both front and back with a single piece aluminium frame around the sides. In most drop test we’ve seen, the glass surface is often shattered or chipped as seen with the latest Galaxy Note 3 and the iPhone 5S.

So does the Xperia Z1 gets double the damage on both sides? Surprisingly it is rather durable with both front and back intact with the aluminium frames taking all of the beating. While the exterior is able to hold itself up to drop abuses, unfortunately it refuses to work after 3 drops, which is a shame considering most shattered devices we’ve seen in other tests are still working.

Watch the Xperia Z1 drop test video after the break.

The Xperia Z1 is now on sale at RM2,399 and it is available from Celcom as low as RM1,538 on contract.
