The Huawei P50 Pro and P50 Pocket are finally launching in Malaysia next week. These are Huawei’s current top-of-the-line flagship smartphones that run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor.
The Huawei P50 series launch in Malaysia is taking place on the 12th of January 2022. Actual sales should be happening very soon as both Huawei P50 Pro and P50 Pocket are already listed on Lazada (P50 Pro, P50 Pocket) and Shopee (P50 Pro, P50 Pocket). According to the product page, the P50 Pro is offered with 8GB RAM and 256GB of storage. Meanwhile, the P50 Pocket is offered in either 8GB RAM + 256GB storage or 12GB RAM + 512GB storage.
Huawei Malaysia has not revealed the local pricing for both devices. For reference, the P50 Pro with Snapdragon 888 and 128GB of storage costs CNY 5,988 (about RM3,930) in China, while the foldable P50 Pocket is priced from CNY 8,988 (about RM5,900) for the standard model or CNY 10,988 (about RM7,213) for the premium version.
Huawei P50 Pro Malaysia
To recap, the P50 Pro was launched in China back in July last year and it is seen as the last Huawei smartphone with a Leica co-engineered camera system. It features a 6.6″ 2700×1228 pixels resolution OLED display that pushes a 120Hz refresh rate and a 300Hz touch sampling rate.
In the camera department, it gets a quad-camera setup that consists of a 50MP main camera, 40MP mono camera, 13MP ultra-wide-angle-shooter, and a 64MP telephoto camera that supports up to 100X digital zoom. For selfies, the punch-hole houses a 32MP selfie camera.
Powering the P50 Pro is a 4,360mAh battery that supports 66W fast wired charging and 50W fast wireless charging. The device has stereo speakers and it also has IP68-rated dust and water resistance. Like the recent batch of Huawei smartphones sold outside of China, it doesn’t come with Huawei Mobile Services and it can’t support 5G due to ongoing US restrictions.
Huawei P50 Pocket Malaysia
The P50 Pocket is Huawei’s attempt on taking on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 but it carries a much higher price tag. On the inside, it gets a 6.9″ Full HD+ OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate while the cover gets a circular 1.04″ OLED screen that can be used for selfies or display notifications.
On the outer cover, the P50 Pocket has a triple-camera setup featuring a 40MP main camera, 13MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 32MP “ultra spectrum camera”. On the inside, the flexible display has a tiny punch-hole for a 10.7 selfie camera.
Despite being a compact foldable device, the P50 Pocket still manages to fit a 4,000mAh battery which supports 40W fast charging via USB-C. Unfortunately, it doesn’t support wireless charging and it also lacks IP68-rated dust and water resistance. Just like the P50 Pro, it doesn’t come with Google Mobile Services and the modem doesn’t support 5G connectivity.
