FreeBuds Pro: Huawei working on almost-identical AirPods Pro clone

Huawei has a recent history of releasing products with design elements that have been “inspired” by Apple products—and that’s putting it mildly. The Chinese company is now working on a new pair of TWS headphones to launch soon: the Huawei FreeBuds Pro. According to an official statement on Weibo, the new FreeBuds Pro will feature noise-cancellation upgrades (presumably, over the FreeBuds 3).

Full official details have yet to be released, although serial leakster Roland Quandt recently shared most of the specs to expect. The FreeBuds Pro’s likeness to the AirPods Pro clearly hasn’t been missed by Quandt either:

Clearly made to look a lot like AirPods Pro, these feature ANC and each have a 52,5mAh battery.

According to Quandt’s report on WinFuture, the FreeBuds Pro will be powered by the same low-power Kirin A1 Bluetooth chip as the FreeBuds 3, and Bluetooth 5.2 is even supported. Three built-in microphones will be used for noise cancellation/ambient noise, while there is also a bone sensor to help with call quality.

Active Noise Cancellation should be present here, and as mentioned, this should be upgraded over previous FreeBuds models such as the FreeBuds 3i. Battery life is unknown for now, although each bud will have a 52.5mAh battery; for some context, the FreeBuds 3i has a battery capacity of 37mAh per earbuds, and offers 3.5 hours of playback on a single charge (not including case).

Meanwhile, the aesthetic of the FreeBuds Pro clearly follows the AirPods Pro’s direction. There are Black and Silver variants now in addition to the classic White, and the stems of the earbuds have sharp edges. Besides that, they look very, very similar to the AirPods Pro.

Judge for yourself:

As for pricing, Quandt predicts that the Huawei FreeBuds Pro will retail for EUR150 (~RM736)—which would make this the premium offering in the FreeBuds range. Huawei has also confirmed that the headphones will be launched on the 10th of September 2020, which means that we should have more details in a few days’ time.

We don’t have official word if Huawei plans to release the new ANC headphones in Malaysia just yet, but based on previous releases, we do expect to get more information sooner rather than later. For now, head over to SoyaCincau.com to stay updated on the latest coverage.
