It looks like there are plenty of things to unpack at Samsung’s upcoming event on the 5th of August. Apart from the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra, the Korean smartphone maker has just dropped a hint that a new Samsung Galaxy Fold will be announced as well.
Like its previous teasers, you’ll see a liquid metal animation in mystic bronze. This time, it morphs into a butterfly which is similar to the current Galaxy Fold wallpaper. On the tweet, it says “One fold, infinite possibilities”, which is a strong hint that this is a new Fold successor.
It has been speculated that the new device could be called the Galaxy Z Fold 2. To streamline its product lineup, it appears that Samsung is putting all of its foldable devices under the Galaxy Z brand. A quick check on Samsung Malaysia’s website reveals that the current Galaxy Fold has been moved under the Galaxy Z category.
In terms of hardware, it has been speculated that the new Fold will feature a larger 7.59″ display on the inside that could push a higher 120Hz refresh rate. For a more immersive viewing experience, Samsung is expected to ditch the thick notch for a punch-hole camera. We hope this time Samsung will feature a larger display on the cover so that it’s more usable as a phone without unfolding the device.
Similar to the current Fold, the device is highly likely to run on the latest Qualcomm chip, and it could be the Snapdragon 865+. The new Z Flip 5G is also expected to run on the same processor.
A couple of days back, serial leakster Ice Universe had also tweeted that the Z Fold 2 will be revealed on the 5th of August and it will go on sale in China on the 20th of September.
Apart from the Galaxy Note 20 series and the Galaxy Z Fold 2, Samsung is also expected to announce the Galaxy Buds Live, Galaxy Z Flip 5G edition and the new Galaxy Watch 3. The Galaxy Unpacked event is happening at 10pm on the 5th of August.
