A new PUBG game is coming, but it’s not what you’d expect

Fans of iconic battle royale title PUBG will be excited to know that there will be a new PUBG game coming soon. At the moment, we don’t know that the game will be called, but PUBG’s publishers have announced that the game will not be a battle royale styled game. Instead, the new iteration of PUBG will be a “narrative experience within the PUBG universe”.

Interestingly, the new game will be developed by Striking Distance, a new studio that is spearheaded by former Call of Duty and Dead Space developer Glen Schofield as its CEO.

However, if you’re expecting a refreshed version of the popular PUBG, you might be a tad disappointed. Schofield revealed in a tweet that the game is not a sequel to the first game, while he also revealed that the game’s directions will go beyond the battle royale format.

The only thing I can say now is that I’m not working on a sequel to PUBG, but an original narrative in the PUBG universe.

— Glen A. Schofield (@GlenSchofield) June 26, 2019

As a creative, the freedom to explore the PUBG universe has me excited about the possibilities, which I view as beyond the battle royale genre.”

At the moment, we don’t know much else about what to expect for the new game, with the game probably still in early stages of its development. That said, a narrative-styled game would imply a story mode within the PUBG universe, along with the possibility of co-op play (something that, for this writer, is essential to the PUBG franchise).
