Machines can replace the battery of your “slow” iPhone within 4 hours

In case you missed it, Apple has intentionally slowed down old iPhones with bad batteries in order to prevent sudden shutdowns. As a solution, Apple Authorised Service Providers are now offering discounted battery replacement at RM129. However, not many are willing to send their devices in as the standard procedure would take 5-7 working days. Obviously this isn’t convenient for most people especially for those who don’t have a spare phone.

To speed things up, Machines is now offering a faster turnaround time of just 4 hours while maintaining the same replacement price of RM129.

For a quick replacement, you’ll need to send in your device before 3PM and it’s also subjected to part availability. According to their FAQ, it could take up to two weeks for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s Plus. Meanwhile, the iPhone 6 Plus would take even longer as this model is no longer in production and they expect replacement batteries to be available in late March or early April.

For other models, Machines says that parts are available without extended delays. The new batteries will come with a 90-day Apple Limited Warranty against manufacturing defects.

This express battery replacement is applicable at Machines service centres at Suria KLCC, The Curve, Mutiara Damansara and Northpoint Mid Valley. If you send your iPhone after 3PM, it will be ready in the following day. You’re still required to perform a full backup and to disable “Find my iPhone” before you pass your device to Machines.

Apple promises to be more transparent with its power management on the iPhone. With the upcoming iOS 11.3, users will be able to check the state of their battery health and they will know if their iPhone is being throttled for stability. If it’s throttled, users will be given the option to disable power management in order to run at 100% performance. If you’re enrolled for the iOS beta program, you should be able to see this feature under Settings > General > Battery.
