Lugging a heavy laptop between back-to-back lectures or squeezing one onto a tiny coffee shop table isn’t ideal. While laptops remain standard for heavy-duty tasks, many students and professionals find themselves wishing for a setup that is far easier to carry without sacrificing essential productivity tools.

HUAWEI’s latest release, the HUAWEI MatePad Air attempts to bridge that gap. Hailed as an Ultra-Thin PC-like AI Tablet, the device combines a lightweight design with specialised AI software designed to handle daily administrative, study, and content creation tasks.
Heavy-Lifting Productivity: WPS AI Office

For many people, switching from a PC to a tablet comes down to software capability. The HUAWEI MatePad Air incorporates PC-level WPS Office and WPS AI Office, bringing desktop-grade document and presentation tools directly onto the tablet screen.
When you are handed a 30-page PDF right before a meeting, the built-in AI Summarizer extracts key takeaways so you can get up to speed in minutes. For presentations, AI Generate Slides and Smart Create allow you to feed in text outlines or companion AI prompts (like ChatGPT, DeepSeek, or Gemini) to generate formatted decks automatically, saving you from manual layout work.
Spreadsheet tasks are similarly streamlined through the AI Sheet Assistant, which builds charts and analyses data via plain-text commands. When it’s time to present, the optional HUAWEI M-Pencil Pro even doubles as an Air Mouse, letting you control your slides wirelessly without staying glued to the screen.
Streamlining Classrooms and Meetings: HUAWEI Notes
Taking fast notes while actively listening during a lecture or client meeting is a constant balancing act. The updated HUAWEI Notes application aims to ease that burden with practical AI features.
Instead of typing frantically, AI Speech-to-Text transcribes live audio directly into text, letting you focus on the actual discussion. If you prefer writing by hand during fast brainstorming sessions, AI Handwriting Enhancement cleans up messy scribbles for easier reading later.
Students tackling complex topics can also leverage AI Tutor, which provides step-by-step solutions for challenging problem sets in subjects like Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Economics, and Biology.
Form Factor and Daily Portability

Hardware portability is where the device stands out. Measuring just 5.3mm thin and weighing 509g, the HUAWEI MatePad Air slides into a tote or backpack with minimal added bulk. Even when attached to the HUAWEI Smart Magnetic Keyboard, the combined weight sits at 817g, keeping it noticeably lighter than most standard laptops.
The tablet comes in three colours, which are Airy Blue, White, and Sakura Pink (which includes a colour-matched stylus), finished with a pearlescent texture and HUAWEI’s signature Star Orbit Camera module.
12-inch OLED PaperMatte Display

Working under overhead fluorescent lights or near bright coffee shop windows usually leads to heavy screen glare. The HUAWEI MatePad Air features a 12-inch 2.8K OLED display treated with HUAWEI’s anti-glare PaperMatte finish. According to HUAWEI, this surface significantly reduces reflections and provides an eye-friendly reading experience similar to physical paper.
The display boasts a 144Hz refresh rate, peak brightness up to 1,200 nits, and slim 4.69 mm bezels yielding a 92% screen-to-body ratio. It also holds TÜV Rheinland Full Care Display 3.0 and SGS Low Visual Fatigue A+3.0 certifications, while the textured surface provides subtle tactile friction for handwriting.
Creative Capabilities and Core Performance
Beyond administrative work, the HUAWEI MatePad Air offers built-in tools for light creative projects. It comes pre-installed with GoPaint, supporting pressure sensitivity levels, custom brushes, and an AI Color Card that extracts colour palettes straight from photos. You can also edit videos through supported apps like CapCut and Filmora, or capture reference shots with the 50MP rear camera.
Under the hood, 8GB of RAM handles smooth multitasking across work and study apps. A 10,100 mAh battery supports up to 10 hours of online video playback, backed by 66W HUAWEI SuperCharge.
The device is rounded out by a 6-speaker crossover sound system and Wi-Fi 7 connectivity.
