EV Connection, the Charge Point Operator behind JomCharge has introduced JomChargeX, a new EV charging brand that promises ultra-fast DC charging speed ranging from 200kW to as high as 1,200kW.
According to the CPO, its fastest JomChargeX charger can charge a compatible 1,000V EV from 20% to 70% in as little as five minutes.
As a result, you can top up your EV as quick as fuelling up a petrol car and get back on your journey in minutes.
First JomChargeX locations at Sepang and Sunway Serene
The new JomChargeX chargers will be deployed at selected locations including highway rest and recreational areas as well as fast-food drive-thru locations.
Among the first JomChargeX locations including Sepang International Circuit and XPark Sunway Serene.
The Sepang International Circuit location has a total DC charging capacity of 360kW across six nozzles. The two JomChargeX branded DC charging units are capable of pushing up to 240kW.
Meanwhile, XPark Sunway Serene is said to be home to the fastest DC charger in Malaysia. Recently, they have added a new DC charger capable of delivering a total of up to 480kW across two nozzles.
Both locations are currently undergoing private testing and are not yet available for public use.
JomCharge says more JomChargeX locations are currently under development in Ipoh, Tapah, Penang, Yong Peng and Johor Bahru.
The map included in the announcement also indicates upcoming JomChargeX locations in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya, Tanjung Malim, Kerteh, Alor Setar andTaiping.

“The EV industry had no direct answer to that previously but now JomChargeX provides a solution to that, with charging speeds so fast that topping up an EV feels as quick and effortless as fuelling up a petrol car,” he added.
JomChargeX chargers will feature a distinctive wrapping design to differentiate them from other chargers on the network. JomCharge says users will also soon be able to identify its ultra-fast charging locations directly through the JomCharge app.
JomCharge currently operates more than 1,000 charging points throughout Malaysia. It shared that the recent expansion demonstrates how a homegrown Malaysian CPO continues to stay ahead of the global EV charging trends where ultra-fast charging is rapidly becoming a new standard.
Actual DC charging rate depends on several factors
At the time of writing, EVC has yet to reveal which EV charging location will offer the ultra-high 1,200kW DC charging output and when will it be ready for public use.
It is worth highlighting that this figure represents the charger capability and does not mean every EV plugged into a JomChargeX charger will charge at 1,200kW. You’ll need EVs with 800V or 1000V architecture to take advantage of the high-powered DC chargers. This includes the latest EV models such as the Zeekr 7X, Xpeng X9 and Denza Z9 GT.
The actual charging speeds will depend on the EV’s supported DC charging rate, current battery state of charge (SOC) and the number of EVs plugged at the site.
For example, if you’re driving a Proton e.MAS 5 that supports up to 71kW DC charging, you will only get the peak rate of 71kW even when plugged in to a 1200kW DC Charger. The EV is rated to provide 30-80% charge in 21 minutes.
