BMW Malaysia has confirmed that it will introduce the first BMW Neue Klasse model for the Malaysian market on 6 August. The company revealed this through a short teaser video during the premiere screening of Spider-Man: Brand New Day for media members last night.

Based on what was shown in the teaser, we believe it will likely be the all-new 2nd generation BMW iX3. After all, consumers in Malaysia are already able to register their interest for the electric SUV on BMW Malaysia’s website since late last year.

Meanwhile, BMW has previously announced it will also launch the all-new BMW iX3 Long Wheelbase (LWB) in Malaysia. This version has a wheelbase of 3,005mm, which is 108mm more than the standard iX3, and this allows for more legroom for rear passengers.

That being said, it is unclear at the moment which version of the iX3 will make its way to Malaysia first.

2026 BMW iX3 Quick Specs

Codenamed NA5, the Neue Klasse’s BMW iX3 can be obtained in two configurations, including the top-of-the-line iX3 50 xDrive. This variant comes with a dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) setup which delivers 345kW (463hp) and 645Nm of torque, resulting in a 0 to 100km/h timing of just 4.9 seconds and a top speed of 210km/h.

With the efficiency enhancements from its Gen 6 BMW eDrive platform, the BMW iX3 50 xDrive offers 679 to 805km of WLTP-rated range, subject to configuration. It is powered by a 108.7kWh NMC battery and has a claimed energy consumption (combined WLTP) of 15.1 to 17.9 kWh per 100km.

Thanks to its 800V architecture, it also supports faster DC charging up to 400kW. BMW says a quick 10-minute top-up at a high-powered DC charger is able to add up to 372km of range, and 10-80% takes just 21 minutes.

As for the other variant, which is called the iX3 40, it features a rear-wheel drive setup with a 235kW (315hp) electric motor that also generates 500Nm of torque. This EV can go from 0 to 100km/h in 5.9 seconds and has a top speed of 200km/h.

Powered by an 82.5kWh NMC battery, BMW claimed that the iX3 40 can deliver a WLTP-rated range of up to 637km. In addition to that, it can also support DC charging speeds of up to 300kW.

For AC charging, both iX3 variants can be configured with either a 11kW or 22kW 3-phase on-board charger.

The new iX3 is also the first BMW EV to support bi-directional charging. Besides supporting Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), which allows you to turn the EV into a giant power bank to run home appliances, it also supports Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G).

With the bi-directional BMW Wallbox Professional (DC) wallbox installed at home, you can use the iX3 to power up your home or sell excess energy to the grid.

In terms of design, the BMW iX3 features a new cleaner design language that includes a slimmer kidney illuminated grille, which pays homage to the 1962 BMW 1500 – the original Neue Klasse.

Meanwhile, the interior gets a huge revamp as well with the BMW Panoramic iDrive system. The traditional instrument cluster has been replaced with a full-width BMW Panoramic Vision that sits below the windshield.

That being said, BMW still retains a 3D head-up display which keeps the driver informed while keeping an eye on the road at all times. Despite its software-defined approach, BMW still retains crucial physical driver controls including signal stalks, gear selector, power windows and side mirrors.

However, the air conditioner vents for the front passengers are now controlled via gestures from the touch screen just like a Tesla. As a 5-seater SUV, the new BMW iX3 still offers a generous amount of storage, which includes a 520L boot that’s expandable up to 1,750L with the rear seats folded. Another first for the BMW EV is the inclusion of a 58L frunk under the bonnet.
