Struggle to tell the Galaxy Z Flip 8 apart from last year’s Galaxy Z Flip 7? Well, you’re not alone as Samsung hasn’t given its clamshell foldable a major redesign this year.
Instead, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 is all about refinement. It gets a thinner and lighter body, a new 2nm Exynos 2600 processor, more Galaxy AI features on the FlexWindow and a couple of new camera features.
Beyond that, the Z Flip 8 hardware remains unchanged.
Samsung’s thinnest and lightest Flip yet
Although it looks almost identical to its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 is slightly slimmer. Samsung has reduced the thickness from 6.5mm on the Galaxy Z Flip 7 to 6.1mm on the Z Flip 8, while trimming the weight from 188g to 180g.
The edge-to-edge 4.1-inch FlexWindow remains one of the Flip’s standout design features, while retaining its ultra-thin 1.25mm bezels that still look good to this day.
While there’s no major visual difference from the previous model, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Samsung has already nailed the Flip’s design last year, and the slimmer profile and extra enhancements make an already elegant phone feel even better in the hand.
The FlexWindow gets more Galaxy AI than ever
The biggest change isn’t the display itself, but what you can now do with it. The Galaxy Z Flip 8 retains the same 4.1-inch Super AMOLED FlexWindow with a 120Hz refresh rate, but Samsung has turned it into a much more capable AI interface.
Besides Now Brief giving personalised updates and suggestions at a glance, Samsung is adding agentic AI features designed to help you complete connected tasks using natural language. During the demo Samsung showed how users could request a ride, automate daily routines and perform supported actions through Gemini Intelligence without opening the phone.
But of course, this is subject to available services that are applicable in Malaysia. With more information and AI features available directly from the cover screen, you’ll probably need to unfold the phone less often for simple everyday tasks.
FlexCam gets smarter
As expected, Samsung hasn’t made any changes to its camera setup. The Z Flip 8 still retains the familiar 50MP f/1.8 main camera, 12MP ultra-wide camera and 10MP selfie camera. Yup, there’s still no telephoto camera either.
Instead, Samsung is focusing on improving the shooting experience through software and AI-assisted features.
One of the highlights is Horizontal Lock, which arrives on the Flip for the first time after making its debut on the Galaxy S26 series. Combined with Super Steady video, it helps keep footage level while recording handheld videos.
The Galaxy Z Flip 8 still retains Camcorder Grip with Zoom Rocker, making one-handed video recording feel more natural, while Dual Preview lets both the photographer and subject see the framing before taking a shot.
There’s also FanCam, a clever post-recording editing feature that lets you tap on a person after recording and automatically crops and stabilises the footage into a social-media-friendly frame with minimal effort. When we tried it ourselves, it worked surprisingly well and it generates the new clip within a minute.
That said, many of these improvements are software-driven, so we wouldn’t be surprised if some of them eventually make their way to last year’s Galaxy Z Flip 7 through a future One UI update.
Incremental upgrades under the hood
Powering the Galaxy Z Flip 8 is Samsung’s new 2nm Exynos 2600 processor, replacing the previous 3nm Exynos 2500. The device still gets 12GB of RAM, paired with either 256GB or 512GB of storage. Out of the box, the phone runs Android 17 with One UI 9.
Everything else remains familiar. The Galaxy Z Flip 8 retains the same 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X inner display and 4.1-inch FlexWindow. Even the battery remains unchanged with 4,300mAh capacity, while maintaining the same 25W wired charging and 15W wireless charging as the Galaxy Z Flip 7.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 starts from RM5,399, which is quite a substantial price increase from the RM4,999 launch price of the Z Flip 7.
