BYD Sime Motors has announced the arrival of the BYD Certified program in Malaysia, which has just become the first international market in Asia Pacific to offer the pre-owned vehicle program. To kick things off, Auto Selection Glenmarie in Shah Alam has been chosen as the first BYD Certified outlet in the region.
In a way, this is history repeating itself – Auto Selection Glenmarie was originally the first BMW Premium Selection (the German marque’s certified pre-owned vehicle program) showroom in Malaysia back in 2008. From there, it eventually grew into Sime Motors’ multi-brand used car division before expanding into the EV space with the launch of EV Next in 2025.
BYD Sime Motors said that the BYD Certified program is going to raise the standard of pre-owned EV ownership in Malaysia. This is being done through professional inspections, verified battery health assessments, warranty coverage, financing solutions with interest rates from as low as 2.03%, and aftersales support.
BYD Certified Malaysia vs China – what’s the difference?
When we compare the details listed by BYD Certified official websites for Malaysia and China, we find that the BYD Certified program in Malaysia closely mirrors the implementation in China (BYD Jingcheng).
For example, the BYD Certified program in Malaysia only offers vehicles that are under 4 years old with mileage below 100,000km – just like in China. That being said, BYD Certified Malaysia has a more defined age and mileage threshold, as listed below:
- 1 year / ≤30,000 km
- 2 years / ≤60,000 km
- 3 years / ≤90,000 km
- 4 years / ≤100,000 km
Meanwhile, the BYD Certified program in both markets also guarantees that the certified pre-owned vehicle is free from major accidents, fire damage, flood damage, and odometer tampering. For Malaysia, the vehicle will be repurchased at full price if undisclosed major damage or mileage tampering is found within 5 days but in China, the duration is much longer at 90 days.
Of course, vehicles that went through the BYD Certified program in Malaysia and China went through a professional inspection process. However, Malaysia’s implementation of the program involved 170 points of inspection, but in China, the process involves 569 points instead, although details regarding these tests were not available for both countries.
In both Malaysia and China, BYD Certified vehicles are refurbished through factory-approved workmanship using genuine BYD parts. Customers who purchased BYD Certified vehicles in Malaysia also have access to aftersales support such as maintenance and service at BYD dealerships nationwide.
The official website of BYD Certified Malaysia did not mention any general warranty terms, though. Over in China, BYD Certified vehicles come with a lifetime warranty for three core electrical components, including the EV battery, electric motor, and electronic control system, although we believe there are certain terms and conditions attached to this policy.
