Smart #5 Malaysia: A new variant coming soon?

We have received an image from an anonymous source who claimed that the Smart #5 lineup in Malaysia will receive a new addition. The source did not provide any other details aside from one single photo, which is shown above.

If we have to make educated guesses, the picture above was probably captured at Port Klang – you can spot several container cranes in the background. Interestingly enough, the Smart #5 shown in the picture is draped in Pulsar Red, which is a colourway that has not yet been offered in Malaysia.

A whole new variant or new colourway?

This image came just days after Smart Malaysia published a teaser on its social media pages. In addition to that, it was only a few weeks ago that the brand announced the availability of the Outdoor Pack and Adventure Pack accessories bundle at KLIMS 2026.

So, are we looking at an all-new variant for Smart #5 in Malaysia? Well, there is indeed one variant that has not made its way to Malaysia called the Smart #5 Pro.

However, the wheels on the unit shown in the picture indicate that this is a Smart #5 Brabus. From this sole image alone, we can’t identify other new features on the electric SUV aside from its colourway.

Smart #5 Malaysia Quick Specs

In terms of specs, the Smart #5 Premium is an RWD model that does 267kW (358hp) and 373Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 6.5 seconds, up to a top speed of 200km/h.

Meanwhile, the Smart #5 Brabus is the range-topping AWD model. It has dual motors pushing 475kW (637hp) and 710Nm of torque. This performance SUV can accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 3.8 seconds and has a top speed of 210km/h.

Both Premium and Brabus variants get a huge 100kWh 800V NMC battery that supports up to 400kW DC fast charging. This means you can top up from 10-80% in just 15 minutes with a high-powered DC charger.

Similar to its #1 and #3 models, the #5 Premium and Brabus support three-phase AC charging up to 22kW, which is faster than most EVs in the market.

The Smart #5 Premium offers a WLTP-rated range of 590km, while the dual-motor Brabus variant is shorter at 540km.

The Smart #5 is a chunky-looking electric SUV with unique details inside and out. On the dashboard, you get not one, not two, but a total of three displays, which consist of a 10.3″ instrument cluster, 13″ OLED centre display and a 13″ OLED display for the front passengers. Powering the infotainment system is an AMD Ryzen Embedded V2000 processor.

For audio, the Smart #5 Premium and Brabus will get a 1,190W 20-speaker Sennheiser Signature Sound System with Dolby Atmos.

In terms of storage, the Smart #5 is very generous with a boot capacity of 630L, expandable up to 1,530L with the rear seats folded. If that’s not enough, there’s also a frunk which offers 72L for the RWD models or 47L for the AWD Brabus version.

Smart #5 Brabus is currently available in Malaysia for RM259,800 while the lower-end Smart #5 Premium goes for RM209,800.
