Anthony Loke instructs JPJ to resume online vehicle ownership transfer service

The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has been instructed to restore its online vehicle ownership transfer services less than a day after announcing a nationwide suspension following complaints involving unauthorised ownership transfers.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said he had discussed the matter with JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli after reports emerged about the temporary suspension of online ownership transfer services.

He said JPJ had informed the Ministry of Transport (MOT) about abuse and fraudulent activities involving the ownership transfer system, which had created liabilities for the department. As a result, JPJ had to perform immediate system improvements immediately.

However, the Transport Minister said he had advised JPJ to ensure that any system upgrade works would not disrupt daily transactions for ordinary users or cause major congestion at JPJ offices nationwide.

Following the discussion, JPJ agreed to immediately restore the online services. Anthony Loke added that any future suspension for system upgrades should only be carried out during the long weekend public holiday period later this week.

Earlier today, JPJ announced that it had suspended all online vehicle ownership transfer services nationwide effective 25 May 2026. The suspension affected transfers via the JPJ public portal, kiosks, MyEG and eAuto platforms following complaints involving vehicle ownership transfers allegedly carried out without the registered owners’ knowledge.

JPJ had previously said all ownership transfer transactions would need to be done manually at JPJ counters nationwide while the system upgrade works were being carried out.
