Shoppers and visitors at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur can now get better 5G coverage indoors, following the activation of In-Building Solutions (IBS) by Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB).

The deployment enables users on CelcomDigi, Maxis and YTL Communications (Yes 5G) to experience consistent high-speed connectivity indoors, including during peak hours.

This marks another step in DNB’s effort to complement its outdoor 5G network, which currently covers more than 80% of populated areas, with stronger indoor coverage in high-traffic locations such as malls, transport hubs, hospitals and event venues.

In-Building Solution rollout targets more high-traffic locations

The Pavilion Kuala Lumpur deployment is part of a broader IBS expansion strategy. DNB says it has already enabled indoor 5G coverage at 72 major sites nationwide, including KLIA, KLIA2, Senai and Penang International Airports, KL Sentral, Setia Spice Arena, KOMTAR, as well as key hospitals and Urban Transformation Centres.

Additional commercial buildings, including more shopping malls, are currently in the rollout pipeline as DNB works with building owners, infrastructure partners and shareholders to expand coverage.

Focus on performance and reliability indoors

According to DNB, indoor 5G improves user experience by delivering more consistent speeds, lower latency and better reliability. This supports use cases such as mobile payments, augmented reality retail experiences and uninterrupted connectivity during peak usage periods.

Beyond consumer use, DNB positions indoor 5G as an enabler for enterprise applications, including IoT deployments, automation systems and AI-powered solutions across sectors such as retail, logistics, healthcare, manufacturing and smart buildings.

DNB: Over 80% of Malaysia’s 5G traffic carried on its network

DNB states that it currently carries over 80% of Malaysia’s total 5G traffic and has received recognition from platforms such as Ookla, OpenSignal, Glotel, FutureNet and TM Forum for network performance.

DNB Chief Executive Officer Datuk Azman Ismail said, “The activation of indoor 5G at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur marks another important milestone in ensuring Malaysians enjoy a truly seamless 5G experience both outdoors and indoors. As connectivity becomes increasingly central to how people live, work and do business, it is critical that high-quality 5G is available at the places that matter most.”

He added that collaboration with mobile network operators, infrastructure partners and building owners has been key to the rollout, alongside support from MCMC for spectrum allocation.
