When is the Xiaomi SU7 & YU7 coming to Malaysia? Here’s Xiaomi’s answer

It’s no secret that making a car is far more complex than building tech products like smartphones. But Xiaomi broke new ground by being the first smartphone-maker to build cars all by itself — designing, developing, and producing them entirely under its own brand.

Since 2023, the company has launched the Xiaomi SU7 EV sedan and the performance-oriented SU7 Ultra. The company’s first SUV, the Xiaomi YU7, was also unveiled just a month ago (May 2025), and will be making its official launch in a month’s time or less.

The thing is, these cars are only offered in China at the moment, which makes us question: When will Xiaomi’s EVs be made available outside of China, specifically Malaysia? We got the opportunity to ask Xiaomi’s International Senior Product Marketing Manager, TJ Walton, during the press conference held after Xiaomi’s regional launch event in Thailand, and here’s what we learnt.

Xiaomi EVs to go global by 2027. So is Malaysia included?

Earlier in March 2025, at MWC 2025, Xiaomi Group Partner and President, William Lu, said that the company is planning to launch its EVs globally by 2027. TJ Walton said the story still remains the same today.

“The goal for us, and it’s just a goal, the goal for us that we’re working very hard towards is to have (our) cars or EVs to be available globally by 2027”, said Walton at the press conference.

He further added, “I can’t specifically answer whether that’s going to happen in Malaysia right away or where, but I think you can go forward to seeing cars in the global market by that time”.

Simply said, there’s no specific answer to when Xiaomi’s EVs will reach our shores, as the global market can mean any country or region outside of China. Nevertheless, we hope Xiaomi Malaysia can bring in the SU7 and YU7, and even better the SU7 Ultra as well, to our country soon.
