Astro has managed to secure the broadcasting rights for the English Premier League (EPL) for another three years which covers the 2025/26 season up till 2027/28. The renewal also includes the broadcasting rights to the FA Cup.

Astro’s EPL viewership increased in the 2023/24 season

Astro Premier League

The long-time holder of EPL broadcasting rights in Malaysia said that the viewership of the popular football league increased last season. While no exact figures were mentioned, the Group CEO of Astro, Euan Smith said that the viewership has gone up by 70% during the 2023/24 season which concluded back in May.

Astro made a massive change to its sports channel lineup back in October which included the discontinuation of Astro SuperSport branding. EPL contents are now being through Astro Premier League and Astro Premier League 2 while certain matches are also shown on Astro Grandstand.

Astro One

Just earlier this week, Astro has also launched Astro One which aims to provide greater flexibility and access to more content for less. Customers can now choose from 3 core packs that start at RM49.99 per month and then proceed to add more content as well as fibre service into their plan.

Astro’s commitment to EPL’s on-screen and off-screen experiences

As per the previous season, Astro will continue to broadcast all 380 EPL matches in HD while some of them will also be made available in 4K UHD. Naturally, football fans can also catch the entirety of the FA Cup through Astro.

In between live matches, the pay-TV operator will also deliver additional original content including magazine programmes, exclusive interviews, and pitch-side presentations. Among the confirmed shows is the second season of the travel show, From KL to PL which will be released in January 2025.

While in-depth details are still under wraps, Astro said that it will also continue hosting viewing parties at F&B outlets, hospitality, and other businesses. Fans can also expect opportunities via Astro Rewards to engage with Astro football pundits through contests and get their hands on prizes as well as exclusive merchandise.
