Tecno has unveiled its latest smartphone camera technologies to the world at its 2024 Future Lens event. Held at its Manufacturing Centre in Chongqing, China this year, this is the company’s fourth Future Lens convention.

A total of three imaging technologies have been announced by Tecno. This includes the Tecno Image Matrix Architecture, EVS Dynamic Snapshot, and Tap Any Zoom Dual Prism Telephoto.

Tecno Image Matrix architecture delivers great-looking shots fast with accurate skin colour

Described as a new “brain” for Tecno’s AI-powered imaging, the Tecno Image Matrix is based on four stages of imaging, along with the enhanced Tecno Algorithm Process Stack (TAPS) as its technical foundation.

These stages include, from bottom to top, the Hardware Foundation Layer. This consists of the four major image processing units, which are camera hardware, display, SoC, and sensor.

Moving up, we have the Descontruction Layer, which is composed of 10 elemental imaging algorithms, such as noise reduction, stabilisation and correction. The third layer is known as the Engine Re-construction Layer. It features four AI-driven imaging engines – AI RAW, AI SNAP, AIGC Studio, and AI Universal Tone (UT).

AI RAW is said to enhance low-light and backlit scenes while improving image clarity, sharpness, and colour. AI SNAP on the other hand enables fast image capture without lag, while AIGC Studio empowers a suite of tools for image enhancement and generation.

Last but not least is AI UT which automatically restores and enhances skin tones. This imaging engine uses AI as well as its large and diverse collection of skin tone data to ensure that various skin tones are captured accurately.

At the top of the pyramid chart is the Application Layer where all of the technologies mentioned above are combined to deliver the best image possible for the user.

The Tecno Image Matrix architecture will also act as the backbone for Tecno’s new imaging functions. These are namely AI Shooting Quality++, Portrait Master, Video Master, AI Snap and AI Image Studio.

EVS Dynamic Snapshot helps you capture fast-moving objects like a pro

The second new imaging technology Tecno has announced at its 2024 Future Lens event is EVS Dynamic Snapshot, which is said to help tackle difficulties typically faced when capturing fast objects.

Traditional cameras collect pixels frame-by-frame. EVS Dynamic Snapshot does it differently by combining traditional CMOS with DVS high-frequency circuits.

With the power of AI, the object can remain clear and sharp, while the background’s motion blur is still retained to display a sense of speed.

Tap Any Zoom Dual Prism Telephoto makes taking long-distance shots easy

Capturing photos of an object that’s far away, while making sure it turns out stable and sharp might not be the easiest task, especially for less experienced photographers.

Tecno introduced its third new imaging technology, the Tap Any Zoom Dual Prism Telephoto, which is said to address three major challenges of telephoto shooting. This consists of focusing difficulties, frequent blurring, and the lack of space to reframe.

As its name suggests, this technology sports a dual-prism design. Along with lens-shift optical image stabilisation and dual-shift wide swing angle, external vibrations can be mitigated to deliver sharp and stable footage. The dual prism setup is also claimed to be able to capture images at up to 14 times the zoom of a standard 125mm focal length lens.

Zooming into a particular object is also easier with the Tap Any Zoom Dual Prism Telephoto technology. Just double-tap on a object you want to capture when in the standard 1.0x or ultrawide 0.6x mode, and the camera will instantly zoom to an “optimal level” to ensure precise framing, eliminating the need to manually fiddle with the zoom controls.

New camera techs to debut on Tecno’s upcoming flagships in 2025

All three of Tecno’s new camera technologies, which are Tecno Image Matrix Architecture, EVS Dynamic Snapshot, and Tap Any Zoom Dual Prism Telephoto, just in case you couldn’t recall, will make their way into Tecno’s upcoming flagship lineup in 2025. However, the company has yet to reveal the specific models or launch dates.
