Apple has just announced its latest iPad Mini for 2024. This is the 7th generation model which replaces the previous 6th gen iPad Mini introduced back in 2021.

Besides getting the long-awaited processor upgrade, the new iPad Mini supports the Apple Pencil Pro as well as Apple Intelligence which is set to arrive in the coming months.

The new iPad Mini (A17 Pro) is coming to Malaysia very soon and they have already listed the official pricing for our local market. Here’s the official pricing for the 7th gen iPad Mini which now starts with 128GB of storage:

iPad Mini (A17 Pro) WiFi

  • 128GB – RM2,199
  • 256GB – RM2,599
  • 512GB – RM3,499

iPad Mini (A17 Pro) WiFi + Cellular 5G

  • 128GB – RM2,899
  • 256GB – RM3,299
  • 512GB – RM4,199

As a comparison, the previous iPad Mini was priced from RM2,299 and it came with 64GB storage for the base option.

For education pricing, the new iPad Mini starts from RM1,949 for WiFi and from RM2,649 for WiFi + Cellular.

The Apple Pencil Pro retails for RM549 (Education: RM499), while the Apple Pencil (USB-C) retails for RM349 (Education: RM299). The new Smart Folio case for the iPad Mini is priced at RM249.

The new iPad Mini now comes in Blue, Purple, Space Grey and Starlight. In case you’re wondering, the iPad Mini still comes with a 20W USB-C Power adapter along with a USB-C cable in the box.

iPad Mini (A17 Pro) Specs and Features

In terms of design, the new iPad Mini for 2024 looks pretty much the same as its predecessor as it retains a 8.3″ Liquid Retina Display that pushes a resolution of 2266×1488 pixels and up to 500 nits of brightness. Even the dimensions and weight are exactly the same as the 6th gen model.

Under the hood, it runs on an A17 Pro chip with 6-core CPU, 5-core GPU and 16-core Neutral Engine. With the new chip, the new iPad Mini delivers a 30% boost in CPU performance and a 25% improvement for GPU over the previous generation.

The rear of the iPad still features a 12MP wide camera which has been updated to support Smart HDR 4 for more detailed and vivid photos. With Apple Intelligence, the new iPad Mini is able to identify documents and it will use the True Tone flash to remove shadows from your shots.

The front camera is still a 12MP ultra-wide unit which supports Centre Stage. Also retained are a pair of landscape stereo speakers and a pair of microphones.

For those who intend to use the iPad Mini for illustrations, the new tablet now supports the Apple Pencil Pro which made its debut together with the M4-powered iPad Pro. If you’re looking for a more affordable stylus, it still supports the Apple Pencil (USB-C).

In terms of connectivity, the new iPad Mini supports WiFi 6E and the USB-C port is now 2x faster than the previous generation as it supports data transfers up to 10Gbps. Interestingly, there’s no Nano-SIM slot listed on the Malaysian spec-sheet. This means users are required to use eSIM for mobile connectivity as you can no longer insert a physical SIM card.

Just like its predecessors, the iPad Mini is rated to deliver up to 10 hours of video playback or web surfing over WiFi or up to 9 hours over a mobile data network.

Out of the box, it runs on iPadOS 18. Users can look forward to even more features when Apple Intelligence is rolled out to the masses.
