To celebrate this year’s Merdeka and National Day, Oppo has released a short film titled “Penghargaan Wira Tak Didendang“. This film pays tribute to the unsung heroes in Malaysia, showing scenes of firefighters’ tense drills and exercises captured using the Oppo Reno 12 series.

The scenes within the film also highlight the heroism, strength, and resilience of these firefighters, illustrating how they prepare and train to push their limits. You may watch the short film on Oppo’s official Facebook page and YouTube channel.

“Dress up” as a national hero and win a hero-themed calendar

With the release of its patriotic-themed brand film, and in conjunction with this year’s Merdeka and National Day celebrations, Oppo’s AI Studio has unveiled its all-new series of national hero-themed AI-generated templates. The brand is also inviting Malaysians to take part in a contest where participants can create avatars of themselves as national unsung heroes, and stand a chance to win a national hero-themed 2025 calendar.

This is how you can participate in the competition. Between now and 17th August 2024:

  1. Head to any Oppo Brand Store.
  2. Experience the Oppo Reno 12 series of smartphones as well as their AI Studio features.
  3. Use AI Studio to “transform” yourself into a hero with Oppo’s new Heroes template (includes characters such as doctors, firefighters, etc).
  4. Snap a picture of you in a national hero “suit”.
  5. Post the picture in the comment section of the campaign post on the Oppo official Facebook page with the hashtag #MerdekaKe67BersamaOPPO.

For more info on this Merdeka campaign, you may visit Oppo’s official Facebook page and Instagram page.

Reno 12 gets new Sunset Pink colour

Aside from its Merdeka and National Day campaign, Oppo has also introduced the new Sunset Pink colour option for the Reno 12, on top of its existing Astro Silver and Matte Brown colour options. Meanwhile, the Oppo Reno 12 Pro continues to be offered in two colour options, namely Nebula Silver and Space Brown.

Reno 12 and Reno 12 Pro quick specs

First made their Malaysian market launch in June this year (2024), the Oppo Reno 12 and Reno 12 Pro are currently priced at RM1,999 and RM2,599 respectively. The former is now RM200 cheaper than its launch price.

Both the Oppo Reno 12 and Reno 12 Pro sport very similar designs and feature the same 6.7″ 120Hz Full HD+ AMOLED display up front. Powering both smartphones are the same 4nm MediaTek Dimensity 7300-Energy for Reno chipset, a mobile platform developed exclusively by MediaTek and Oppo. This is then paired with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage for both devices.

On the camera department, both the Oppo Reno 12 and Reno 12 Pro feature the same 50MP main camera and an 8MP ultra-wide angle shooter. However, the Reno 12 gets a 2MP macro shooter as its third camera, while the Reno 12 Pro gets a 50MP telephoto camera instead. Handling selfies for the Oppo Reno 12 is a 32MP camera, while the Reno 12 Pro is equipped with a 50MP front camera.

Oppo has equipped the Reno 12 series with Generative AI features such as AI eraser to remove unwanted objects from photos, AI studio for creating digital avatars, as well as AI Clear Face.

Supplying power to the Reno 12 series is a 5,000mAh battery. This power source is charged using Oppo’s 80W SuperVOOC fast-charging technology via USB-C. Both devices run on Oppo’s Color OS skin, built on top of Android 14.

You can purchase the Oppo Reno 12 and Reno 12 Pro via the brand’s official site, or the official Oppo store on Lazada and Shopee.
