The Sony PlayStation Portal, announced almost a year ago, is finally making its way to Malaysia soon. As announced on the official PlayStation blog, Sony has revealed the official pricing and availability details for the Portal in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.

The PlayStation Portal is a companion remote-player accessory for the PlayStation 5 which allows you to stream your game on a handheld device over a WiFi network.

Sony PlayStation Portal Malaysia Price

The Sony PlayStation Portal is officially priced at RM999 in Malaysia and pre-orders will be available from 5th August 2024. Singapore will get the PlayStation Portal on 4th September 2024, followed by Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand on 9th October 2024. Customers in each respective market are advised to refer to the respective authorised retailers for pre-order details.

Sony PlayStation Portal Remote Play features

The Portal is a PS Remote Play device which lets you stream your PS5 games from your console. The accessory enables you to continue with your PS5 games if you need to move around the house or when the sole TV at home is in use.

The PlayStation Portal features an 8″ LCD screen that pushes 1080p resolution at 60fps. The accessory also has a familiar DualSense wireless controller that offers adaptive triggers and haptic feedback.

For the Portal to work, you’ll need a reliable WiFi connection at home. Unfortunately, there’s no 4G or 5G mobile connectivity support, but Sony has stated on their website that it can be played outside your home network as long as you have access to WiFi with at least 5Mbps. For an optimum experience, a minimum connection of 15Mbps is recommended.

The Portal has built-in speakers and there’s a 3.5mm headphone jack. Unfortunately, there’s no Bluetooth support as it solely relies on PlayStation Link wireless technology. This means you’ll have to pair it with either the Pulse Explore wireless earbuds or the Pulse Elite wireless headset.

What do you think? Is it worth RM999 or would you rather just run PS Remote Play on your existing mobile device paired with your controller?
