For anyone looking for the next generation of visual entertainment, Samsung has the perfect solution for you. Coming in at 75 inches, the QN800C Neo QLED 8K TV is perfect as the centrepiece of your living room or the home theatre set-up. Thanks to the slew of technologies baked into the TV, it is suited to be the jewel of your home – and it all starts with the Quantum Matrix technology.

Samsung’s next-generation Quantum Matrix Technology based on Mini LED technology is said to deliver stunning visuals. Now called the Quantum Matrix Technology Pro, it delivers up to 1.5 times more lighting zones than the previous generation, and this means that you get brighter whites and darker blacks than before.

With Mini LED lighting technology, the LEDs are much smaller than the standard-sized LEDs, allowing a smaller group of pixels to share a single light source. This in turn provides for finer and more precise lighting control of the pixels. Additionally, colour reproduction is improved as well, providing more vibrant and richer colours.

Speaking about pixels, the Mini LEDs light up 33 million pixels, which gives the screen a resolution of 8K. This is equivalent to four 4K displays running at the same time, so you get approximately four times the resolution of a normal 4K TV.

Now, there is a very limited selection of 8K content to watch. You can playback 8K videos shot on your Galaxy S23 Ultra or watch 8K videos on YouTube. Besides that, Amazon Prime’s Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power TV show is streamed in 8K as well. But like with all streaming content, the video is compressed to save on data and bandwidth. Therefore, the picture is not as sharp when compared to native 8K.

That said, the QN800C features Samsung’s Neural Quantum Processor 8K which can upscale any resolution to 8K, so it looks as sharp as possible on this display. However, the effectiveness of the AI upscaling comes down to the quality of the video input. A high bit rate 4K video upscaled to 8K will look amazing while a 480p video might not look that well.

Besides 8K AI upscaling, the new processor also enables Neo Quantum HDR 8K+ for more true-to-life colours and a richer dynamic range without compromising the image quality.

As for gaming, the only way you’re going to get playable framerates at 8K is if you have a powerful gaming rig or use an up-sampling software like Nvidia DLSS or AMD FSR. But should you choose to game on the QN800C, it does support framerates up to 120Hz at 4K with VRR and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro while 8K gaming maxes out at 60Hz.

But what is a great visual without great audio? The Samsung QN800C 8K TV comes equipped with a 4.2.2 speaker configuration that has a rated power output of 70W. The two upward-firing speakers enable the TV to support Dolby Atmos audio for a surround sound experience.

Not only that, but the Adaptive Sound Pro uses built-in audio remastering technology that optimizes sound based on your room as well as the audio content. Object Tracking Sound+ (OTS+) meanwhile analyses the action on screen and dynamically moves the sound with the objects. Therefore, you will hear the sound following the object across the screen, adding a sense of immersion.

All this video and audio hardware is encapsulated by Samsung’s Infinity One design. The QN800C combines svelte lines and a slim profile making it stand out in just about any setting. With the almost borderless front design and minimal stand footprint, the QN800C can easily match any room set-up.

For those who are allergic to messy wires, the One Connect box will help to reduce the nest of wires connected to the TV. The box can be attached to the back of the stand or put to the side – or even out of sight – to leave your TV installation looking clean.

All your input sources like a media box or gaming consoles connect to the One Connect box. Then a single cable carrying both data and power from the One Connect Box runs to the TV. Other than the One Connect port, there are three USB 2.0 ports, four HDMI 2.1 ports with the HDMI 3 being the dedicated eARC port, an RF Coaxial port, an optical audio port, and an ethernet port.

For easy content consumption, the Samsung Smart Hub allows direct access to your content from major providers like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+ Hotstar, Apple TV and YouTube, so you don’t even need a TV box. Navigating the Samsung Smart hub can be done with the included remote control, which has built-in batteries and supports charging via the USB C port or the solar panels on the back.

Alternatively, you can also use your smartphone to control the TV using the SmartThings app. Since the QN800C also has the SmartThings app built in, it can be used as a smart home hub to control supported robot vacuum cleaners, lights, HVAC systems and even kitchen appliances all from the comfort of your sofa.

This also means that the TV will integrate seamlessly into the Galaxy ecosystem. For example, if you have your Galaxy Buds 2 Pro connected to your TV and Galaxy S23 Ultra, the audio will switch automatically when you get a phone call on your phone and switch back to the TV once the call ends.

So now the question is: How much will you need to fork out to experience the QN800C Neo QLED 8K TV? Well, seeing how the 8K TVs are Samsung’s flagship models and pack the best TV tech the company has to offer, it’s unsurprising that they come at a premium price. The QN800C that we have sits in the middle of the range between the “entry-level” QN700C and the top-of-the-range QN900C.

The 65” size goes for RM17,699, the 75” size that we have here goes for RM22,699, and the massive 85” size goes for RM32,699. You can check out Samsung’s Neo QLED 8K TV lineup on their official Malaysian website.
