Booked the Model Y? Tesla Malaysia lets you switch to Model 3 Highland without losing RM1,000 booking fee

Tesla Model 3 Highland has finally been revealed to the world and to our surprise, Malaysia is one of the first markets in Asia Pacific that has already begun to accept orders for the newly upgraded model. If you feel tempted by the new variant but already ordered a Model Y, Tesla has made a special arrangement for Malaysian customers to address that scenario.

The EV company has since provided an option for Malaysian customers to switch their order from Model Y to Model 3 Highland without losing their RM1,000 order fee. Tesla’s no-refund policy for order fees is widely known in the industry, so this is a rather interesting move by the company.

Tesla Malaysia Model Y order fee refund process

In order to get back the Model Y order fee, here are the steps that were provided by Tesla Malaysia to SoyaCincau.com:

Email to [email protected] by providing your original Model Y order reference number and your new Model 3 reference number.

In order for your refund request to be considered, the following criteria must be met in full:

• You must have an active Model Y order placed before 1 Sep 2023.

• You must have placed a new Model 3 order.

• Both your Model Y and your new Model 3 orders are placed under the same Tesla Account, verified by the same email address.

• Both orders must be placed for Malaysia.

• Your refund request must be sent to us by 15 Sep 2023 and will only be processed once.

This arrangement is made out of goodwill, and Tesla reserves the right of interpretation and change at Tesla’s sole discretion. Once your request is approved, it may take up to 30 working days for it to be reflected on your credit card statement.

Tesla Model 3 Highland Malaysia pricing

At the moment, the Model 3 Highland can be obtained in two variants which have a base pricing as per below:

  • Tesla Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD): RM189,000
  • Tesla Model 3 Long Range (LR): RM218,000

Do note that there are also delivery & administration, number plate, and order fees involved. Once you consider all those additional fee, this is how much the EV costs:

  • Tesla Model 3 RWD: RM190,700
  • Tesla Model 3 LR: RM219,700

There might be on-the-road registration fees too, so be mindful of that as well. We previously noted that customers outside of Klang Valley may have to pay extra delivery fees too.

The base unit for both Model 3 Highland variants comes in the Pearl White colourway, Black interior, and 18-inch Photon Wheels. If you want to change these features, there are some extra fees involved:

  • Solid Black – RM5,000
  • Deep Blue Metallic – RM5,000
  • Stealth Grey – RM7,500
  • Ultra Red – RM11,000
  • Black & White interior – RM5,000
  • 19-inch Nova Wheels – RM7,500

Not to forget, customers also have the option to upgrade the Autopilot advanced driving assistance system inside the car to Enhanced Autopilot for an additional RM16,000. If you want to have the Full Self-Driving suite instead, this option costs RM32,000.

Tesla estimated that the first delivery of Model 3 Highland in Malaysia will take place in late 2023. This is much earlier than Model Y which will only take place sometime in early 2024.
