DUKE Highway begins to accept credit and debit cards for toll payments

The Duta Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE) has officially accepted credit and debit card payments starting today. This is made possible by the implementation of the open payment system which also involved 11 other highways throughout the country.

Similar to other highways that have already turned on the system, DUKE has installed the credit and debit card payment terminal alongside an existing Touch ‘n Go (TNG) card reader. This essentially turned the lane into a hybrid toll lane which has been marked by a large banner.

Here are other highways that have activated the open payment system so far:

  • Maju Expressway (MEX)
  • West KL Traffic Dispersal System (SPRINT)
  • Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP)
  • Shah Alam Expressway (KESAS)
  • SMART Expressway
  • New Pantai Expressway (NPE)
  • Sungai Besi Expressway (BESRAYA)

According to the announcement by the Ministry of Works back in April, there are also four other highways that will also accept credit and debit card payments via the open payment system including Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway (AKLEH), Guthrie Corridor Expressway (GCE), Penang Bridge, and Butterworth-Kulim Expressway (BKE).

Since the ministry has insisted that credit and debit card payments will be accepted at all 12 highways next month, expect these remaining highways to implement their open payment system by this coming Friday, 1 September.

Credit and debit card payment terminal at MEX.

Based on our trials at MEX earlier this month, paying using credit and debit cards is not as fast as the traditional TNG card and TNG RFID. However, they are still quite fast as the differences were only between 2 to 5 seconds.

The open payment system is also able to support contactless payment on smart devices such as Apple Pay and Samsung Pay. Seeing is believing, so check out our test right here:
