Gentari and BMW Group Malaysia have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that revolves around green mobility services and solutions. While the announcement of the MoU did not involve any unveiling of new products or services, it did hint at the pathways that the new collaboration is going to take.

Among them is the deployment of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure at various locations including BMW dealerships. Not only that, Gentari and BMW are also exploring the idea of establishing forecourts which are essentially similar in nature to traditional petrol stations but made exclusively for EVs.

Naturally, both companies are also looking into a variety of related services for BMW EV owners such as EV charging subscription plans, portable charging, and mobile charging. Through the MoU, the green energy subsidiary of Petronas together with the renowned German automaker will also be exploring EV fleet solutions and renewable energy infrastructure.

Shah Yang Razalli, the CEO of Gentari Green Mobility said “We are thrilled to collaborate with a prestigious automotive brand like BMW to expand the accessibility of green mobility services and solutions in Malaysia. Additionally, Gentari’s capabilities in renewable energy will also help to establish a more comprehensive green electron value chain and together, we can pave the way for a greener and more sustainable future.”

BMW iX: one of the German marque’s EV offerings in Malaysia.

Meanwhile, the Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia, Hans de Visser said, “As the leading premium automaker offering the largest portfolio of Electric Vehicles in Malaysia, we at BMW Group Malaysia are pleased to collaborate with Gentari to develop more mobility solutions, services as well as infrastructure to drive more Clean and Responsible technology and practices for the automotive industry here. I can already envision this partnership shaping the future mobility landscape of Malaysia, offering more solutions created through the means of sustainable development and circularity.”

The new deal essentially marked yet another expansion to Gentari’s growing list of automotive collaborations. Prior to BMW, the company already partnered with Mercedes-Benz Malaysia, Pro-Net, and Lotus Cars Malaysia while it has also collaborated with Sime Darby Motors during the recent launch of BYD Dolphin.

BMW iX made an appearance at Gentari’s booth during the Energy Asia conference earlier this year.

As for BMW, this can be seen as part of the company’s continuous commitment to the local EV industry and infrastructure. The automaker is one of the pioneers when it comes to EV in Malaysia and has established partnerships with local Charge Point Operators (CPOs) since as early as 2015 with ChargEV which was run by the Malaysia Green Technology Corporation (MGTC) at that time.

Aside from ChargEV and Gentari, BMW also has signed a partnership with EV Connection which operates the JomCharge network. This led to the creation of the BMW Charging package which offers charging credit worth RM800 and 10% discounts on charging fee that is valid for a year.
