Anwar: Over 10 million Malaysians to get RM100 in eWallet credit

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has announced a new government initiative that sees all Malaysian citizens aged 21 and above with an annual salary of RM100,000 and below receiving RM100 in eWallet credit from the government. This builds on the previous eBeliaRahmah plan that saw around 2 million Malaysian youths receive RM200 in eWallet credit that opened up for applications just last month.

During the launch of the Madani Economy: Empowering the People program in Kuala Lumpur earlier today (27 July), Anwar Ibrahim revealed the new RM100 eWallet credit government initiative and claimed that it came about thanks to the success of the government’s previous eWallet credit programs, such as the eBeliaRahmah initiative that also helped the domestic business sector generate income on top of building a cashless society.

In total, the government expects there to be roughly 10 million Malaysians who will benefit from this latest initiative, as it will cover both the B40 and the M40 demographic in the country. Based on the RM100,000 annual salary requirement, this means that everyone aged 21 and over earning less than RM8,333 a month would be eligible for it. Anwar added that the government has set aside RM1 billion for this new initiative, with the end goal being to lift Malaysia up into the top 30 global economies over the next decade, as well as to improve our human development index ranking into the top 25.

“The estimated number of eligible recipients is expected to be around 10 million Rakyat comprising those of the B40 and M40 with allocations of around a billion ringgit,” – Anwar Ibrahim

At the moment though, neither the Prime Minister or the government has made it known what the distribution process is like for the new B40 and M40 RM100 eWallet initiative, but it’s expected to follow the eBeliaRahmah program.
