This is the Nothing Phone (2). So what’s new with the rear design?

[ UPDATE 04/07/2023 19:30 ] Nothing Phone (2) Malaysia launch is happening on 14th July.

===

The Nothing Phone (2) is launching on 11th July and the brand is stepping up with the new phone running a flagship-class Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor. After seeing a leaked render of the Phone (2) last month, Nothing has finally revealed the design of the phone in both white and grey colour options.

As expected, the Nothing Phone (2) retains its signature “semi-transparent” appearance along with its array of Glyph lights. Despite founder and CEO Carl Pei’s random “F A K E” tweet, the final product matches the renders shared by serial leakster Onleaks. What’s new is that the rear glass looks more polished as it is slightly raised with a subtle curved. Another noticeable difference is the extra gaps on the Glyph interface, which is obvious when you see the Phone (1) and Phone (2) side by side below.

MKBHD was the first to show an early hands-on of the Nothing Phone (2) and he has also shared a couple of details on the new Glyph interface. Besides having more individual illuminated elements, the new Glyph interface now has more LED zones than before with a total of 33 zones versus just 12 on the previous phone.

The extra LED zones provide more granularity on the lighting effects which include a new Glyph timer that can illuminate the progress bar on the rear. Nothing is said to be opening this new Glyph feature to various partners including Uber and Zomato. The rear interface can be utilised to illustrate the progress bar of your delivery or eHailing ride. The Phone 2 also provides more customisation options to create your own Glyph ringtone as well as the ability to set a Glyph light as a dedicated notification for your favourite app.

The Nothing Phone (2) global launch is happening at 11pm on 11th July 2023. The Malaysian launch is happening three days later on 14th July 2023 with Yes as their exclusive launch partner. With a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip and a more upmarket exterior, we reckon that the Nothing Phone (2) would be priced higher than the Nothing Phone (1).

The Phone (1) was launched in Malaysia back in July 2022 with the 8GB RAM + 256GB storage model going for RM2,399, while the 12GB RAM + 256GB storage model was priced at RM2,699. Late last year, the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage model was eventually released in Malaysia at a much lower price of RM1,499 while the other 256GB models get a RM400 price cut.
