Rumours about the Galaxy S23 FE has been swirling about ever since Samsung launched the Galaxy S23 series back in the start of the year. The ‘Fan Edition’ Galaxy smartphone had skipped a generation, going missing during the Galaxy S22 launch cycle, but latest reports indicate that it will return earlier than expected.
The Galaxy S23 FE was originally expected to debut some time near the end of the year; the S21 FE notably only appeared nearly a year after the mainstream Galaxy S21 lineup. However, SamMobile now claims that the Galaxy S23 FE will be getting a staggered release, with it launching sometime in Q3 2023, with the Fan Edition smartphone then getting a wider release at the end of the year and the start of next year.
Unfortunately though, all of the latest news regarding the Galaxy S23 FE seems to indicate that Samsung will indeed be using its own Exynos 2200 system-on-chip to power the device. It won’t be region-based like previous generation Samsung flagships either; the Exynos 2200 will be in every single Galaxy S23 FE across the world. It’s a stark departure from the rest of the Galaxy S23 series, which had the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy, and may be disappointing news to Malaysian fans who tend to prefer Qualcomm-flavoured Samsung smartphones.
It’s not all bad though. Despite putting in a nearly two-year old processor under the hood, Samsung is apparently going to upgrade the camera setup on the Galaxy S23 FE. Its predecessor — which we reviewed here — wasn’t exactly a slouch in the camera department with a 12MP, f/1.8 main camera, a 12MP, f/2.2 ultrawide camera and an 8MP, f/2.4 telephoto on the back. With the Galaxy S23 FE, the Korean giant is set to finally give its FE smartphone the same 50MP camera found on the non-Ultra Galaxy S23.
Other rumoured features and specs include up to 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage, with a 4,500mAh battery keeping the lights on. There’s no word just yet on an exact launch date for the Galaxy S23 FE, but with their Unpacked event set to happen on 27 July, perhaps we could see it debut then.
