During WWDC23, Apple launched several brand new hardwares such as the Vision Pro and the MacBook Air 15. To complete the hardware lineup, Apple has also upgraded its Mac Studio with more powerful M2 Max and M2 Ultra chips. The refreshed Mac Studio for 2023 is coming to Malaysia and here’s how much it costs.

Apple Mac Studio M2 Malaysia Pricing

The new Mac Studio for 2023 now starts from RM9,499 for the base M2 Max (12-core CPU, 30-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine) model with 32GB unified memory and 512GB SSD in Malaysia. That’s RM700 more than the previous generation Mac Studio that runs on the M1 Max (10-core CPU, 24-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine) along with the same RAM and storage combo.

You can choose to bump the base M2 Max chip to a beefier 38-core GPU option for an extra RM800 or jump straight to the M2 Ultra (24-core CPU, 60-core GPU, 32-core Neutral Engine) for an extra RM7,100. If you need even more GPU power, the higher M2 Ultra option with a 76-core GPU will cost yet another additional RM4,000.

The new M2 Ultra now supports up to 192GB of unified memory. With all hardware options maxed out, your “money is no object” Mac Studio will cost a whopping RM38,199 in Malaysia. This includes the highest M2 Ultra option, 192GB Unified Memory and 8TB SSD. The pricing excludes other accessories such as the Magic Keyboard and the Magic Mouse. If you need a monitor, the Apple Studio Display costs at least RM6,999 for standard glass or RM8,299 for the nano-texture glass version.

As a reference, last year’s Mac Studio with maxed-out M1 Ultra and hardware options costs RM32,799.

If you want one, you can’t buy it just yet in Malaysia. The Mac Studio 2023 is still listed as coming soon on the local Apple online store.

Apple Mac Studio M2 Features

The biggest star of the new is the latest M2 Ultra which is essentially having two M2 Max chips fused together for double the performance. Fabricated on a second-generation 5nm technology, the new M2 Ultra chip boasts 134 billion transistors, which is 20 billion more than last year’s M1 Ultra. The maximum supported memory has been bumped from 128GB to 192GB, while memory bandwidth remains unchanged at 800GB/s.

Performance-wise, Apple says the M2 Ultra CPU is 20% faster than the M1 Ultra. Meanwhile, the bigger GPU is also up to 30% faster and the Neural Engine is faster by up to 40%. With the new performance upgrades, Apple claims that the M2 Utlra is currently the world’s most powerful chip ever created for a personal computer.

The rest of the Mac Studio looks pretty much unchanged and it retains the same silver cube design as last year’s model. You still get two USB-C ports (Thunderbolt 4 for Max models) and one SDXC card slot up front, while the rear gets 4x USB-C (Thunderbolt 4) ports, two USB-A ports, one HDMI port, one 10Gb Ethernet port and one 3.5mm headphone jack. In terms of connectivity, the new 2023 Mac Studio supports an even faster 802.11ax WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.

Apple also increased the bandwidth for its HDMI port which now pushes up to 8K resolution at 240Hz frame rates. Paired with the M2 Ultra, the Mac Studio can now connect up to six Pro Display XDRs which pushes over 100 million pixels combined.

In case you missed it, you can check out our review of last year’s Mac Studio that runs on the Apple M1 Ultra chip.
