Mac Pro 2023 with M2 Ultra Malaysia: Here’s the official pricing

The four-year-old Mac Pro with its large cheesegrater design is finally getting a huge update. Completing the transition to Apple Silicon, the new Mac Pro 2023 has ditched Intel’s Xeon W processors for their very own Apple M2 Ultra. If the Mac Studio with M2 Ultra isn’t enough for you, here’s how much it costs to buy the Mac Pro 2023 in Malaysia.

Mac Pro 2023 Malaysia Pricing

The new Apple M2 Ultra powered Mac Pro starts from RM32,999 for the Tower or RM34,999 for the rack version in Malaysia. The only major differences between the two are the external form factor and options for wheels on the tower version.

Similar to the Mac Studio, the “cheaper” M2 Ultra has a 24-core CPU, 60-gore GPU and 32-core Neutral engine. For more graphical performance, the 76-core GPU version of the M2 Ultra costs an additional RM4,000 to the price tag. The base option gets 64GB of unified RAM and 1TB of storage, but you can go all out and pair it with 192GB of unified memory and 8TB of SSD.

A max-configured Mac Pro 2023 tower costs RM54,348 with all the bells and whistles which include a Magic Mouse + Magic Trackpad + Magic Keyboard plus the stainless steel frame with wheels which is a RM1,600 option. If you’re going for rack version, a fully maxed-out list costs RM54,748 which includes the Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad and Magic Keyboard.

Take note that the monitor is not included. Apple’s Pro Display XDR costs RM19,999 for the standard glass version or RM25,999 for the nano-texture glass option. If you need a stand (which most certainly you would), that’s another RM4,499 option. So in total with the Pro Display XDR Nano-texture glass and Pro stand, the full Mac Pro 2023 tower set would cost you RM84,846.

Since the new M2 Ultra can support up to six Pro Display XDR, you can add on five more similar monitors for a grand total of RM237,336.

It’s worth pointing out that the pricing wasn’t as insane as the Intel-based Mac Pro 2019 which could cost over RM262,000. That’s because the old Mac Pro can be upgraded with up to 1.5TB of DDR4 ECC memory (12x 128GB) which itself costs RM110,000, or about the same price as a mid-tier Proton X70 SUV.

Similar to the new Mac Studio 2023, the new M2 Ultra-powered Mac Pro options are still not yet available in Malaysia.

Mac Pro 2023 Malaysia Specs and Features

The new M2 Ultra chip is described by Apple as their most powerful chip and it is essentially two M2 Max being fused together. Compared to its Intel Xeon-based predecessor, the new Mac Pro with the versatility with PCIe expansion is said to be up to 3x faster and it has the performance of seven afterburner cards built-in, allowing 22 streams of 8K ProRes Video.

The new Mac Studio can support up to eight 4K displays, six 6K displays or three 8K displays. Keeping up with the current times, Apple has upgraded its connectivity with 802.11ax WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3 and a total of eight Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C) ports. There’s also three USB-A ports, two HDMI ports and dual 10Gb Ethernet. The number of PCI Express expansion slots has been reduced from the previous 8 to 7, and one slot is already occupied by Apple’s I/O card.
