Gentari’s EV Charge Go “powerbank” can deliver up to 60kWh of charging capacity

Petronas green energy subsidiary Gentari has been teasing its new EV Charge Go (EVCG) mobile electric vehicle (EV) charging service for the past few weeks. The team behind the service today has revealed the battery capacities that the mobile charging system is able to support.

Fitted into a Proton Exora, EVCG said that the charging equipment can carry either 30kWh or 60kWh depending on customers’ needs. With a capacity of 60kWh, that’s enough to fully charge a BYD Atto 3 Extended Range which comes with a 60.5kWh battery. However, the new teaser did not mention the system’s charging speed though.

Just like in previous teasers, we have noticed that there are multiple types of connectors present on the charging equipment. Two of them can easily be identified as CCS2 for DC charging and Type 2 AC charging but the round-shaped connector that was positioned between them could be either AC Type 1 or DC CHAdeMO.

If we have to guess though, it is most probably the latter because some EVs in Malaysia are still using CHAdeMO. Among them is the second-generation Nissan Leaf as well as its facelift counterpart that has just been launched over here in March.

The same connector is also present on Tesla units imported from Japan as CHAdeMO is the de-factor DC charging standard in that country. In Malaysia, all new EVs aside from the Leaf FL so far were equipped with a CCS2 connector instead.

If that is true, Gentari EVCG charging equipment should not have issues when it comes to compatibility. Meanwhile, the company’s new teaser once again highlighted the 3-month pilot test that it has planned for the service but continues to keep essential details such as availability and charging fee under wraps.

Similarly, it is not yet known at the moment if Gentari is planning to integrate EVCG into the Setel app as per its existing charging stations and hubs nationwide. We have reached out to the company to obtain more details regarding the project, so we will keep you posted once we hear more from the Petronas subsidiary.
