You really shouldn’t get a PS5 from Unifi, as it’s much easier to buy one now in Malaysia

A couple of days ago, you might’ve heard the news that Telekom Malaysia (TM) had begun offering users a Sony PlayStation 5 (PS5) for a monthly instalment of RM119/month on a 24-month contract. This came with a couple of caveats though, most notably being that you’ll need to get its most expensive Unifi 800Mbps fibre broadband plan with Unifi TV and Unifi Mobile Postpaid 65 for a total of RM523/month.

Needless to say, that’s not exactly cheap, especially considering that the PS5 Digital Edition with an additional DualSense controller and God of War Ragnarok game bundle retails for RM2,688 while if you take up TM’s offer, you’ll be paying RM2,856 just for the console alone after the 24-month contract ends. Perhaps a couple of years ago when supply was low and scalper prices were high it could’ve potentially be seen as a good deal, but definitely not now seeing as you can just get a PS5 at retail prices already.

Taking a quick look at Shopee for instance, the Sony Centre official store is selling the PS5 Digital version complete with a headset for just RM2,538, while the only other SKU they offer is the PS5 Disc version with God of War Ragnarok game bundled along with three more of Sony’s PlayStation exclusive titles, namely Horizon Forbidden West, Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart and Ghost of Tsushima, for a total of RM3,666. Meanwhile, on the Sony Malaysia website, you’ll even be able to find a PS5 Digital for as low as RM2,069.

Alternatively, another Shopee Mall retailer we found selling the Sony PlayStation 5 at time of writing is All IT, with their listing having the regular PS5 Disc edition for RM2,499 while the PS5 Disc along with the God of War Ragnarok bundle going for RM2,769—cheaper than TM’s PS5 Digital with God of War Ragnarok. That being said, we should point out that All IT’s listing is a pre-order, with the estimated ship out date of 22 March 2023. There’s also another Shopee Mall seller selling the PS5 Disc for just RM2,459, though it ships from Hong Kong rather than locally.

Basically, if you’re looking to get a PS5, you really should consider just buying one outright from a legitimate seller as it’ll likely be much cheaper than the one offered by TM. Plus, you also won’t need to get Unifi TV and the Unifi Mobile Postpaid 65 plan too if you don’t need it. And even if you still would rather get a PS5 under a telco plan, there’s Maxis who at time of writing is still offering the PS5 Digital with God of War Ragnarok and an additional controller for as low as RM4/month on a 36-month contract with their 800Mbps fibre broadband plan.
