Priced from under RM150,000, the BYD Atto 3 is currently the most affordable electric SUV that you can buy in Malaysia. Despite being an electric family vehicle, it has a secret feature which lets you record your 0-100km/h acceleration time. Here’s how you can find and activate the acceleration timer on the BYD Atto 3.

How to activate Acceleration Timer on the BYD Atto 3

STEP 1: On the right side of the steering wheel, press the instrument/back button as pictured above.

STEP 2: Scroll down until you find the “Acceleration Timer” feature. Then press the scroll wheel button on the steering to confirm.

STEP 3: On the centre console, flick the MODE button to change to SPORTS mode.

STEP 4: Press the scroll wheel button on the steering again to confirm.

STEP 5: Acceleration Timer is activated and ready to go.

If you’re planning to do a speed run, it is advisable to do it at a closed circuit or at an area without active traffic for your safety and the safety of others. Interestingly, the official BYD Atto 3 manual states that the 0–100km/h experience can only be achieved when the vehicle has at least 95% of charge, is in sports mode and the acceleration timer interface is enabled. It also warns users to be mindful of all relevant safety measures and to ensure that the vehicle is in optimal condition. It also warns against using the acceleration timer feature when visibility is low.

To recap, the BYD Atto 3 has a single electric motor driving the front wheels that produces 201hp (150kW) and 310Nm of torque. It has a rated 0-100km/h acceleration time of 7.3 seconds.

The BYD Atto 3 Standard Range model is priced at RM149,800 and it gets a 49.9kWh battery which has a rated driving range of 345km. If you want to drive further on a single charge, the Extended Range variant is priced at RM167,800, and it gets a larger 60.5kWh battery capable of delivering 420km of range.
