Oppo Find N2 Flip: This is the one you’ll (hopefully) be able to buy

Aside from the Find N2, Oppo has also introduced its smaller sibling, the Find N2 Flip. As the name suggests, it’s a competitor to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4, and unlike the regular Find N2, it’s earmarked for a global release—although pricing and availability details will come later.

Like its Korean rival, the Find N2 Flip is a tiny, almost square clamshell device that unfolds vertically to reveal a regular smartphone-sized touchscreen. In this case, it’s a 6.8-inch AMOLED LTPO 2 panel with a 2520×1080 pixel (403ppi) resolution, a peak brightness of 1,600 nits and an adaptive refresh rate that goes from 1 to 120Hz.

Underneath the display sits the same second-generation Flexion Hinge as the Find N2, folding the screen into a wider teardrop shape. This not only lets the device close flat (no “thigh gap” here), but also results in a crease that’s “almost invisible”—less noticeable than on its rivals, Oppo claims.

The new hinge design also allows the Find N2 Flip to stay open at any angle, enabling FlexForm Capture multi-angle photo shooting, similar to Samsung’s FlexCam. Close the phone completely and you’ll find a much larger cover screen than the Z Flip 4—a vertical panel that measures 3.2 inches across and incorporates a 720×382 pixel (250ppi) resolution and a 60Hz refresh rate.

Right beside the cover screen sits dual cameras which, like the Find N2, carry Hasselblad branding. Like the larger model, there’s a 50MP main camera with an f/1.8 aperture, but the ultra wide has been downgraded to an 8MP unit with an f/2.2 aperture. Inside the device is a 32MP selfie camera with an f/2.4 aperture.

The Hasselblad branding not only brings with it the German camera maker’s colour science but also a Pro Mode and an an XPan mode, the latter giving photos an extreme wide crop to mimic the namesake film camera. The Find N2 Flip also comes with Oppo’s MariSilicon X imaging neural processing unit (NPU), but unlike the larger model, 4K video recording is limited to 30fps here.

There’s another “downgrade” in terms of hardware—the Find N2 Flip swaps the Find N2’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip for the MediaTek Dimensity 9000+, although it retains LPDDR5 RAM (8, 12 or 16GB) and either 256 or 512GB of UFS3.1 storage. Despite the smaller size, the 4,300mAh dual-cell battery is only slightly smaller than the Find N2’s, and much larger than the Z Flip 4’s 3,700mAh. It also supports faster 44W SuperVOOC charging, but in return you don’t get wireless charging, just like the Find N2.

The Find N2 Flip runs on Android 13 skinned with ColorOS 13, just like the Find N2. It also features 5G, WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity, NFC, a side fingerprint sensor and face unlocking.

In China, the Find N2 Flip starts at RMB5,999 (about RM3,799) with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, making it RMB1,500 cheaper than the Z Flip 4, which costs RMB7,499 (about RM4,749; the Malaysian model starts at RM4,099 with 128GB of storage). This figure rises up to RMB6,399 (about RM4,053) for 12GB of RAM, topping out at RMB6,999 (about RM4,433) with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.
