Oppo Find N2, Find N2 Flip teased: Latest rivals to Samsung Z Fold 4, Z Flip 4 coming 15 Dec

Oppo has finally revealed that its annual Inno Day event will happen on December 14 and 15, and to whet our appetite, it has teased the two main stars of the 2022 edition—the Find N2 and Find N2 Flip. Both foldable phones will be revealed on the second day on December 15.

The Find N2 is the successor to last year’s Find N, which emerged as a surprisingly likeable alternative to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold. The original model has a much shorter 5.49-inch AMOLED outer display that made it easier to hold, and judging by the almost-square aspect ratio when unfolded (as shown above), it looks like the new version will continue this trend. It also has its selfie camera in the same top-left position as the Find N.

On the other hand, the Find N2 Flip brings Oppo into uncharted waters, aiming to compete head-to-head with the Galaxy Z Flip 4. Just like its Korean sibling, it’s a tiny phone that unfolds vertically into a conventional candy bar form factor. Both models will likely feature the Flexion Hinge first seen on the Find N, which folds the screen into a wider teardrop shape to minimise the centre crease.

Judging by the teasers, the two phones will also share a common design language, with flat sides and bevelled edges. This distances the Find N2 series from the Find N and is actually somewhat reminiscent of the iPhone 5.

Accompanying these images are some preliminary specs that have been leaked ahead of the event. According to a tweet from serial tipster Mukul Sharma, the Find N2 will maintain its 7.1-inch AMOLED main display with a resolution of 1920×1792 pixels and 120Hz refresh rate, but receive a larger 5.54-inch outer screen with a resolution of 2120×1080 pixels.

The device is also tipped to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip (not the newer 8 Gen 2 as previously rumoured) and feature a Hasselblad-branded triple-camera setup. The latter includes a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilisation, a 48MP ultra wide and a 32MP telephoto with a 2x zoom. Two 32MP selfie cameras are expected to sit within both the outer and inner displays.

Lastly, the Find N2 should receive a 4,520mAh battery (slightly larger than the Z Fold 4) that supports up to 67W of fast charging, as well as a side fingerprint sensor. The device is also rumoured to weigh as little as 233g, more than 40g lighter than the outgoing Find N.

As for the Find N2 Flip, it’s reported to feature a 6.8-inch AMOLED main display with a resolution of 2520×1080 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate, while the cover screen is expected to be oriented vertically and measure 3.26 inches across. The latter would be much larger than the Z Flip 4’s 1.9-inch horizontal unit.

Under the skin, the Find N2 Flip is tipped to be powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 9000+, rather than a flagship Snapdragon chip—a choice that will hopefully result in a lower price. Oppo also appears to have cut costs with the cameras, as the device is expected to sport just an 8MP ultra wide camera, paired to the same 50MP main camera and 32MP selfie shooter as the Find N2.

Juicing the Find N2 Flip is said to be a 4,300mAh battery (600mAh up on the Z Flip 4), which can be charged at up to 44W. The phone is claimed to weigh 191g, slightly heavier than the Samsung.

As previously reported, the Find N2 Flip is expected to be sold globally, possibly making it the strongest competitor to the Z Flip 4. However, a new tweet from @UniverseIce says the same fate will elude the larger Find N2, which will likely remain a China-only offering. That’s a little disappointing, given the device’s appealing smaller size compared to its rivals.
