RapidKL: LRT Kelana Jaya line resumes full operations from 14 Nov, free travel for 7 days

Rapid KL has announced that the LRT Kelana Jaya line will resume full operations starting tomorrow, 14th November at 6am. The full restoration of the Kelana Jaya line was achieved two days ahead of schedule. A total of 16 stations (Kelana Jaya to Ampang Park) were closed since 9th November due to Automated Train Control (ATC) related issues.

According to the rail operator, the LRT Kelana Jaya line has received the necessary approval from the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) to resume full operations. The agency has declared the Kelana Jaya line as safe to operate fully after analysing the extensive tests carried out by technical experts by Rapid Rail and Thales Group OEM.

Caretaker Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said during the press release on Friday that ongoing tests on the rail line have been positive, and more extensive tests will be conducted before the line is reopened ahead of schedule. He said that the public will be informed by 6pm if a decision is made to reopen the line the next day after it is certified safe.

Rapid KL offers free travel for 7 days

Although the line was partially suspended for 5 days, Rapid KL is giving free travel for 7 days. For My50 users, they will get additional 7 days of validity when they renew their My50 pass from 21st November to 20th December 2022. Users can renew it at any customer service office at LRT, MRT, Monorail and BRT stations.

Meanwhile, Touch ‘n Go users can use the Kelana Jaya Line service as usual without charge from Monday, 14th November to Sunday, 20th November 2022 as long as the journey starts or ends at any Kelana Jaya Line station. Users must ensure a minimum value of RM5.00 in their Touch ‘n Go card at all times.

Token users can also enjoy the free trip from 14th to 20th November by obtaining the special one-way travel token at the customer service office at LRT, MRT, Monorail and BRT stations, provided that the trip start or ends at any Kelana Jaya Line station.

Rapid KL thanked APAD for providing approval to fully resume its Kelana Jaya line service and they will continue to monitor the system for stability while maintaining safe operations. It reiterated that the decision they took was for passenger safety and they hope that the early resumption of service would help to reduce the inconvenience faced by daily public transport users.

They also thanked all parties especially Smart Selangor, MARA Liner, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and Malaysians who have stepped in to provide assistance to stranded passengers. Prasarana and Rapid Rail have also apologised to all Malaysians affected by the service interruption and they are taken all steps necessary to ensure this outage would not happen again.
