Nintendo released a teaser showing a new ghost-type Pokemon, Greavard. When I first saw the teaser trailer, I couldn’t believe how cute the new Pokemon was—but I also couldn’t believe that it ended with the Pokemon seemingly… “un-alive-ing” the explorer in the video.
The teaser starts with an explorer representing a Ghost-type Pokemon Club, on an assignment to find Ghost-type Pokemon. After encountering a few familiar Ghost-types like Mimikyu and Gengar, the explorer finds a new “never-seen-before” Greavard—which looks a lot like a cute shaggy dog wth a candle on its head.
After playing fetch with Greavard and noting how cute it is, the explorer suddenly falls to the ground and is immediately getting licked by the Ghost-type dog Pokemon before she fully faints. While they didn’t clearly state what happened to the explorer there, comments on the YouTube video are currently filled with claims that the explorer “canonically died in front of our eyes”.
Despite the adorable but dangerous Ghost-type dog Pokemon, commenters and fans on Twitter are now massive fans of it. A commenter exclaimed that they “don’t care” if they die as they just want a cute little ghost puppy. Twitter also showcases how excited Pokemon fans are for the puppy to show up in the games.
Greavard is teased for the upcoming Pokemon Scarlet and Violet games, coming to the Nintendo Switch on 18 November 2022. Previously, the Pokemon company also showed off a new electric frog earlier this month—Bellibolt—and its gym leader Iono’s partner.
