Does Yes offer free SIM cards for its prepaid and postpaid plans? | Ask Us Anything #35

Welcome back to another episode of Ask Us Anything, where we gather your questions from the internet and answer them.

In today’s episode, we find out if the Huawei Mate 50 Pro supports Air Gestures like the Mate 40 Pro, what OS the Mate 50 Pro runs on, and whether Yes still offers free sim cards for its mobile plans.

Does the Huawei Mate 50 Pro supports Air Gestures?

Well, the Huawei Mate 50 Pro’s predecessor, the Mate 40 Pro did support air gestures like Air Scroll to scroll through a page, Grabshot to take a screenshot, and Air Press to play and pause music or to answer a call.

These features are grouped under Smart Sensing, which is located, surprisingly, in the Accessibility Features tab instead of something like “Advanced Features” on Samsung’s One UI, but I digress.

The Huawei Mate 40 Pro uses a Time-of-Flight sensor for 3D depth sensing on the front to detect your hands to enable these features.

If we move to the Huawei Mate 50 Pro and look in the Accessibility Features tab, you will find the Smart Sensing section. But, there’s only one feature inside and that’s the “Keep screen on while looking.” Now, the Mate 50 Pro is also equipped with a Time-of-Flight sensor, so it is not handicapped hardware-wise.

So, I believe that Huawei has disabled this feature in software, maybe because it was just a gimmick. This means, there could be a chance for Huawei to enable these features in a future software update.

What OS does the Mate 50 Pro run on?

Our up-to-date Huawei Mate 50 Pro is running EMUI 13.0.0 on top of a version of Android. Huawei did not explicitly say which version of Android the Mate 50 Pro is running on. And in case you were wondering, the phone does not come with Google Mobile Services (GMS), but it does come with HMS or Huawei Mobile Services.

In China, the phone runs EMUI 13 on top of HarmonyOS 3.0. You can check out Rory’s first impressions of the Huawei Mate 50 Pro in the video below.

Does Yes still offer free sim cards?

The answer is yes – pun intended – Yes still offer free sim cards for both their prepaid and postpaid plans.

On the prepaid side, you still can get a free sim card under the First To 5G or FT5G plan. It comes with unlimited 5G data, 10GB of 4G data, and free calls and SMS to Yes numbers, all of which are valid for the 30-day trial period.

After that, it will cost you RM30/month for the Yes Prepaid FT5G Unlimited plan, which you will need to purchase yourself. So you don’t need to worry about being automatically charged. The plan includes unlimited 4G data capped at 7Mbps, unlimited and uncapped 5G data, 9GB of hotspot data, and unlimited calls to all networks but unlimited SMS to Yes numbers only.

If you prefer postpaid, Yes is offering its Infinite Postpaid plan for up to 30 days for free on its official store on Shopee.

Just purchase the Yes Infinite Discover Postpaid Plan on Shopee using the RM58 off voucher and get the sim card for free. What you get with the plan is unlimited 4G and 5G data with no Fair Usage Policy (FUP), unlimited calls to all networks, and 10GB of Hotspot data.

Do take note that during the trial period, you can’t use it for roaming, International direct dialling or IDD, or off-net SMS which means SMS to other networks and non-toll free numbers as the trial plan has zero credit limit. After the end of the trial period, you will be charged RM58/per month until you terminate the plan by contacting Yes.
