Besides launching the iPhone 14 series, Apple has also increased the price of the iPhone SE 2022 in Malaysia. This is currently Apple’s entry-level iPhone and they have also discontinued the iPhone 11.
Here’s the revised official pricing for the iPhone SE in Malaysia:
- iPhone SE 64GB – RM2,249 (extra RM150)
- iPhone SE 128GB – RM2,499 (extra RM200)
- iPhone SE 256GB – RM2,999 (extra RM200)
The RM200 price increase didn’t come as a surprise due to inflation while the current foreign exchange rate is USD 1 to RM4.50, which is said to be the weakest since 1998. As it already is, the iPhone SE is a tough iPhone to recommend due to its dated design and small 4.7″ HD display. Despite having one of the latest flagship chips, the now discontinued iPhone 11 seems to be a better buy as it has a larger screen, better cameras, bigger battery and a modern design with support for Face ID. The new starting price of RM2,249 would make it an even tougher sell as you can easily find flagship-level performance Androids in the same price range.
The iPhone SE 2022 is Apple’s most affordable 5G smartphone and it is essentially an iPhone 8 that runs on an Apple A15 Bionic chip. It retains the classic iPhone design and it’s also the last remaining iPhone to feature a Touch ID fingerprint sensor. In terms of cameras, it uses a 12MP main shooter while the front settles for 7MP selfie camera.
Despite running on the newer A15 chip, it lacks Night Mode but it supports Smart HDR4 and Deep Fusion. The device also gets IP67-rated dust and water resistance, as well as stereo speakers. Apple claims that a single charge can push 15 hours of video playback and like the rest of the lineup, it doesn’t come with a power adapter. Using a compatible USB-PD charger, the device supports 20W fast-wired charging using the lighting to USB-C cable.
