Apple has announced the 3rd gen iPhone SE with 5G and it’s coming to Malaysia before the end of this month. This is Apple’s most affordable new iPhone model with a starting price of RM2,099. Pre-orders for the new iPhone SE will be available in Malaysia starting next Friday, the 18th of March 2022 at 9am and it will be available on the 25th of March 2022.

Similar to its previous generation iPhone SE, it comes in three colours – Midnight (Black), Starlight (White) and (Product)Red. In terms of pricing, it costs RM100 more than the 2nd gen iPhone SE which was launched with a starting price of RM1,999.
iPhone SE 5G Specs
The new iPhone SE retains Apple’s iconic design since the iPhone 6. It still gets a 4.7″ Retina HD (1334×750) display but under the hood, it runs on the latest Apple A15 Bionic chip that’s also powering the iPhone 13. Apple claims the glass on the front and back of the iPhone SE is the toughest on a smartphone and it still retains its aerospace-grade aluminium frame. Although it shares the same dimensions as before, the new iPhone SE at 144 grams is actually 4 grams lighter than the previous model.
In the camera department, it retains the same 12MP f/1.8 rear camera while the front still gets a 7MP front camera that can do Facetime HD. Thanks to the newer processor with a more powerful neural engine, it gets more camera features including Smart HDR 4 and Deep Fusion.
As usual, Apple didn’t reveal the battery capacity but the new iPhone SE claims to push up to 15 hours of video playback, which is two hours more than the previous generation model powered by the A13 Bionic chip. In terms of wireless connectivity, it supports sub-6GHz 5G, 802.11ax WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0. It has NFC but there’s no support for ultra-wideband (UWB).
The iPhone SE still retains a home button with Touch ID and has IP67-rated water resistance which allows it to be submerged up to 1 metre deep for up to 30 minutes. It can support fast charging using a USB-C PD power adapter and Qi wireless charging
Would you get the iPhone SE or the iPhone 11?
With a starting price of RM2,099, that’s quite a lot to pay for a phone that comes with just 64GB of storage. If you’re looking for an iPhone with a larger screen and bigger battery, you might want to consider the iPhone 11 which is priced at RM2,399 for the 64GB model and RM2,599 for the 128GB version. During mega online sales, you could get discounted prices from authorised retailers.
Although it runs on an older Apple A13 Bionic chip like the previous iPhone SE, the iPhone 11 has a larger 6.1″ Liquid Retina HD display, two 12MP rear cameras for wide and ultra wide, a higher-resolution 12MP front camera that supports Face ID, and a larger battery that is rated to push 17 hours of video playback. Of course, the biggest drawback is the lack of 5G but at the moment, Apple devices aren’t supported yet in Malaysia.
