Xiaomi has launched a veritable smorgasbord of smart devices today, encompassing pretty much everything you need around the house (and even outside). There are the usual things, such as a smart TV, wireless earbuds, a smart speaker, a CCTV and a smart light.
But there are also some interesting devices that you wouldn’t expect, like an air fryer that you can operate using the Google Assistant. There’s a lot to go through here, so let’s get going, starting with the Xiaomi TV A2.
Xiaomi TV A2 Malaysia price and availability
The A2 is Xiaomi’s latest affordable smart TV, available in three rather atypical sizes. Prices for these are as follows:
- Xiaomi TV A2 38-inch – RM999
- Xiaomi TV A2 43-inch – RM1,299
- Xiaomi TV A2 58-inch – RM2,799
Sales will start on Friday, September 9, with early-bird customers able to purchase the TVs at a lower price – RM799 for the 38-inch model and RM1,099 for the 43-inch version. The 58-inch model doesn’t come with a discount; you’ll get a free 23.8-inch Mi Desktop Monitor 1C instead.
The Xiaomi TV A2, along with the other devices listed here, can be bought from the official Lazada and Shopee stores as well as authorised Xiaomi retail outlets.
Xiaomi TV A2 specs and features
Despite the shared name, these TVs are quite different from each other. The 38-inch model has a HD resolution of 1366×768, and while the 43-inch model is available in 4K in other markets, here you’re limited to Full HD (1920×1080).
To get 4K resolution, you’ll have to spring for the 58-inch version, which also supports Dolby Vision. All three models have a 60Hz refresh rate and support HDR10.
There are other differences under the skin. While they all get the same Cortex A55 quad-core processor, the 58-inch model receives a Mali G52 GPU instead of the G31 on the other versions, presumably to handle the higher resolution. The biggest variant also gets 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, instead of just 1.5GB of RAM and 8GB of storage.
What they all share is the design, incorporating a metal frame, unibody plastic body and plastic stands that are typical for the price. They also all come with two 10W speakers and support Dolby Audio, although DTS-HD support is reserved for the 58-inch model.
All three versions of the A2 are Android TVs with YouTube, Netflix, Prime Video and the Google Assistant pre-installed. The last three come with their own hard buttons on the remote control.
Redmi Buds 4 and Buds 4 Pro Malaysia price
Xiaomi has also launched its newest wireless earbuds, the Redmi Buds 4. As before, these are available in regular and Pro versions, with pricing as follows:
- Redmi Buds 4 – RM239
- Redmi Buds 4 Pro – RM369
The Buds 4 can be had in either white or blue, while the Buds 4 Pro are available in white or black. Purchases made before September 16 will include another pair of earbuds – the Redmi Buds 3 Lite with the Buds 4 and the Redmi Buds 3 Pro with the Buds 4 Pro. This promotion is exclusive to Lazada and Shopee purchases.
Redmi Buds 4 and Buds 4 Pro specs and features
If the Redmi Buds 4 look familiar, that’s because it appears to be a rebranded Buds 3 Pro, replete with its stemless design. It has the same 35dB of active noise cancellation and six hours of battery life, although the latter now expands to 30 hours with the case included. There are also slightly larger 10mm drivers this time around.
The Buds 4 Pro gains the stemmed look inherited from the Buds 3T Pro, but with improvements that include a separate 6mm driver for treble sounds, support for Sony’s LDAC lossless audio codec and up to 43 dB of ANC. With the more efficient Bluetooth 5.3, the Buds 4 Pro also now has an impressive nine hours of battery life (36 hours if you include the case, which can be charged wirelessly).
Both models feature IP54 dust and splash resistance, touch controls, in-ear detection, multi-point Bluetooth connectivity, three ANC modes and two transparency modes. As before, the extra ANC and transparency settings are only available using the Xiaomi Earbuds app, which is on the Google Play Store but not the Apple App Store. The two earbuds also support quick pairing with the latest MIUI-equipped Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco phones.
Xiaomi Smart Speaker IR Control Malaysia price and features
If you’re looking for larger speakers, Xiaomi has the Smart Speaker IR Control for your consideration, priced at RM199 (Lazada, Shopee). As the name suggests, its USP is the built-in IR blaster, allowing you to control regular ”dumb” appliances like TVs and air-cons using the Google Assistant through Mi Home and Xiaomi Home app integration.
The device, which measures 95mm by 95mm by 114mm, comes with a 1.5-inch speaker and a built-in LED clock display. You also get the Google Assistant built-in, and you can connect two of the same speakers for stereo sound. The Smart Speaker IR Control will be available in Malaysia a bit later than some of the others on September 16.
Mi Camera 2K Malaysia price and features
Another new product is the Mi Camera 2K, a CCTV priced at RM119 (Lazada, Shopee). It features a single 2K camera with a 2304×1296 resolution, plus built-in infrared lights for night vision. It also comes with a microphone and a speaker to allow voice calls, as well as AI-driven motion sensing to detect human motion.
The device can store video either in the cloud or on a MicroSD card, and Xiaomi is touting encrypted communication validation, data transmission and cloud services. The round camera isn’t able to rotate its own, but it does come with a magnetic mount that will allow you to move it around the back of the device for easy positioning. The Camera 2K supports Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa integration.
Mi Smart LED Ceiling Light Malaysia price and features
On sale from September 16 at RM399 (Lazada, Shopee), the Mi Smart LED Ceiling Light is a WiFi-enabled lamp that can be used without a hub. Not only does it work with the Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, but it also supports Apple’s Homekit, allowing you to control it using Siri and an iPhone’s or iPad’s Home app.
The lamp only emits white light, though you can control the colour temperature from 2,700 to 6,000K, as well as the brightness from 450 to 3,100 lumens. A Moonlight mode enables you to drop the brightness down to just 50 lumens, essentially turning it into a night light.
The Smart LED Ceiling Light can be linked to other devices using Bluetooth; for instance, you can set it to turn on when a motion sensor is activated or when you open a door with a smart lock. It can even be connected to a Mi Band to detect if you’ve fallen asleep and turn itself off.
Xiaomi Smart Air Fryer Malaysia price and features
Now we’ve come to the products you wouldn’t expect to benefit from IoT capabilities. Take the Smart Air Fryer, which was introduced globally last year but has only just arrived in Malaysia through official channels. Chinese imports have been available on Lazada and Shopee for some time, but you can now get the appliance with translated booklets and display and an official local warranty.
As previously reported, you can use the Google Assistant to start and stop cooking and check the remaining time, while the Mi Home app lets you browse from over 100 recipes. The Smart Air Fryer can also cook for up to 24 hours, which Xiaomi says is ideal for yogurt fermentation and dehydrating pet food, among other things.
Otherwise, this 3.5-litre air fryer functions like any other, coming with a non-stick removable drawer, an in-box grille and a temperature range of between 40 to 200 degrees Celsius. A OLED display on the front dial allows you to choose your preferred settings. Unlike all the other products here, the Smart Air Fryer is available right now at RM359, although the price will be slashed to RM299 on the official Lazada and Shopee stores from September 9 to 16.
Xiaomi Electric Toothbrush T700 Malaysia price and features
Even an electric toothbrush can now have smart capabilities. The Electric Toothbrush T700 comes with three brushing modes and durations, which can be selected using either the Xiaomi Home app or the physical buttons. There’s even an overexertion warning to prevent bleeding gums, and you can check out detailed data and analysis reports on the app.
The toothbrush also comes with a dot matrix display that shows a “brushing score”, remaining battery life, reminders, nicknames and even emojis. Providing juice is a 1,050mAh battery that Xiaomi claims provides 24 days of charge.
As for the usual toothbrush specs, the T700 vibrates 39,600 times a minute and comes with a slim 4mm brush head – the latter with convex DuPont Staclean non-irritant Nylon bristles designed specifically for sensitive teeth. The Electric Toothbrush T700 is priced at RM429 (Lazada, Shopee); every purchase will include two brush heads.
Xiaomi Water Ionic Hair Dryer H500 Malaysia price and features
The only non-IoT device on this list, the Water Ionic Hair Dryer H500 nevertheless comes with plenty of jargon too foreign for this writer. According to Xiaomi, it has a built-in condenser and is capable of “double water ion therapy”, using tens of millions of negative ions to maintain natural hair moisture and prevent frizziness and split ends.
You can choose from three heat and two speed settings, and the hair dryer is able to detect and adjust the temperature of the airflow in real time to prevent overheating the hair and scalp. An alternating hot air (for drying) and cold air (for styling) mode with smart temperature control moisturises the ends and protects the scalp. Visually, the H500 is separated from the H300 by its aluminium alloy body.
Like the smart speaker and ceiling light, the Water Ionic Hair Dryer H500 will go on sale on September 16, priced at RM259 (Lazada, Shopee).
