The Oppo Find X5 Pro was one of the first smartphones to be announced with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip but it has yet to launch in Malaysia. If you’ve been waiting for Oppo’s top-of-the-line flagship, the local launch appears to be right around the corner.
Oppo Malaysia has just put up an event page for the Find X5 Pro and interested buyers can register their interest in the new smartphone. There’s no official launch date yet but the page has indicated that both the Ceramic White and Glaze Black versions will be offered in Malaysia.
The Oppo Find X5 Pro is the successor to last year’s Find X3 Pro. It features a 6.7″ Quad HD+ (3216×1440 pixels) curved AMOLED display that can push an adaptive refresh rate up to 120Hz. It boasts a peak brightness of 1300 nit and the screen is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.
Under the hood, it runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 gen 1 processor paired to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM, along with a choice of 256GB or 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage.
In the camera department, Oppo is stepping up their game with a triple-camera setup that has Hasselblad Natural Colour Calibration in Pro Mode and it’s powered by their new MariSilicon X custom image neural processing unit. The rear camera bump features two 50MP Sony IMX766 sensors for main and ultra-wide-angle shots and a 13MP telephoto camera that offers 5x hybrid optical zoom and 20x digital zoom.
Unfortunately, Oppo has dropped the 3MP microlens from the Find X3 Pro which provides a rather interesting microscope camera experience. For selfies, the Find X5 Pro gets a rather high-resolution 32MP front camera that uses an IMX709 sensor which is co-developed by Sony and Oppo.
For a more upmarket look and feel, the Find X5 Pro uses a ceramic back that claims to be stronger and can help with heat dissipation. There are also stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos enhancement along with IP68-rated dust and water resistance.
Powering the device is a rather huge 5,000mAh battery that can support Oppo’s 80W SuperVOOC fast charging technology. It is claimed that you can get a 50% charge from near zero in just 12 minutes or a full charge in just 35 minutes. As you would expect from a flagship device, there’s also wireless charging support including Oppo’s very own 50W AirVOOC wireless charging. In China, the device runs on Android 12 with ColorOS 12.1 skin on top.
When the device was first announced, the Oppo Find X5 Pro with 256GB storage is priced at EUR 1,299 (about RM5,990). We reckon that it should be priced lower for Malaysia considering last year’s Oppo Find X3 Pro was launched at RM4,299.
The Oppo Find X5 Pro is definitely a premium flagship smartphone that competes with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S22 series. If you’re looking for affordable Snapdragon 8 gen 1 powered alternatives, there’s the Poco F4 GT, Realme GT 2 Pro, Xiaomi 12 and Motorola Edge 30 Pro.
