You might have heard that MyeongDong Topokki has announced they were opening up an NFT restaurant in Genting Highlands last year in November. Well, it’s now a reality—seen through the casual Korean restaurant’s Facebook page.
So… what the heck IS an NFT restaurant? The MyeongDong Topokki branch in Genting Highlands is still a place where customers can “enjoy hot and delicious Korean food”. But the place also seems to be a hub where there would be “trained NFT guides” to help customers purchase NFTs.
According to their website, MyeongDong Topokki have released special NFTs which can be purchased and used as “VIP Passes” at the Genting Highland branch. And that one single purchase of the NFT will mean that they have the perks with “no applications or reoccurring fees each year”.
There are four different kinds of NFTs you can purchase from MyeongDong Topokki. The first is The Elite—which will give you one free dine-in special value set monthly, one free NFT exclusive Premium Menu per promo period, and one “free Metaverse Topokki” monthly… whatever that is. You’re also entitled to bring three guests to enjoy the exclusive Premium Menu “at guest rate”.
The Trendsetter gives you the same perks. However, you won’t be able to get a free “Metaverse Topokki”.
The Unusual will mean you can only bring two guests instead of three to enjoy the “exclusive Premium menu” at a guest rate.
The fourth kind of NFT offered is Base Born. This one seems the most basic, but you’d still get one free dine-on for a Special Value Set monthly—as well as the exclusive Premium Menu per promo period. You’re only able to let one other guest buy the Premium menu at a guest rate, though.
“Pokki’s NFT holder will enjoy exclusive perks to the restaurant. Invite to special event, meet & greet session, outlet launch, on ground/ digital events. Privileged news about updates and upcoming NFT/Gaming releases. Gain additional benefits through roadmap activations,” wrote MyeongDong Topokki on their site.
They didn’t, however, mention what the heck they meant by a free “Metaverse Topokki”. Is it a Topokki but in the “metaverse”?
You’re able to purchase a MyeongDong Topokki NFT through OpenSea. So far, every kind of NFT available—including Base Born, Unusual, and Trendsetter— is priced at ETH 0.08 each. That’s about RM1,014. I’m surprised they’re all the same price, as the Trendsetter NFT is the most worth it. You might as well purchase that one over the more basic Base Born. The Elite NFT—however—can’t be found in the collection. It might not be available yet.
This is likely Malaysia’s first NFT restaurant (correct me if I’m wrong, of course), but it’s not the first NFT restaurant in the world. According to Eater, there is a “NFT Restaurant Boom” where owners of the restaurants’ NFTs will enjoy “one-of-a-kind physical and virtual experiences” and “future integration into the expanding metaverse.”
