Apple ‘Peek Performance’ event is happening on 9 March. Here’s what Apple could be launching next week

Apple has sent out an invite for its first event in 2022 with the headline ‘Peek Performance’. After introducing the iPhone 13, 3rd gen AirPods and updated MacBook Pro with more powerful M1 Pro and M1 Max chips late last year, here’s what you can expect from Apple next week.

How to watch Apple’s 9th March event live?

The upcoming Apple event is taking place on 8th March at 10am PST, which is at 2am on 9th March Malaysian time. As usual, you can watch it live from Apple’s website as well as their YouTube channel. Looking at the teaser image, it looks like Apple’s new products would come in a variety of striking colours similar to their latest iPad mini and iMac 2021.

What is Apple launching on 9th March?

Apple is expected to offer a cheaper 5G device by introducing its 3rd generation iPhone SE. Despite earlier speculations that it could offer an all-screen display with Face ID, the upcoming iPhone SE would still retain the same classic iPhone design as the current model. This means a smaller 4.7″ HD Retina Display and a home button that still comes with a Touch ID fingerprint sensor.

It is likely that Apple will upgrade the new iPhone SE with the current top-of-the-line A15 Bionic chip that’s also powering the latest iPhone 13 series. Since the iPhone SE would be the new entry-level device, it is expected to retain a similar price tag as the current iPhone SE. To recap, the current 2nd gen iPhone SE in Malaysia is priced from RM1,999 for the 64GB model, RM2,199 for the 128GB model, and RM2,699 for the 256GB model.

The next device that’s due for an update is the iPad Air 2020 which lacks 5G connectivity. For the 5th gen model, it is expected to get a newer Apple A15 Bionic chip just like the iPhone SE and an upgraded wide front camera that supports the Centre Stage feature. The new iPad Air 2022 is expected to retain the same exterior design including its 10.9″ Liquid Retina Display. There were speculations that Apple could put more cameras on the rear and the new tablet may come with an improved four-speaker setup.

Besides a new iPhone and iPad, there were also speculations that Apple might introduce a more powerful Mac Mini and MacBook Air that could run on the M1 Pro and M1 Max. There’s also the possibility of Apple introducing a larger version of the current slim 24″ iMac to replace the ageing Intel-powered 27″ iMac.
