I don’t think I have ever felt this heartbroken over an advertisement in a while—but I’m a sucker for cute little animals. Samsung probably reached deep into the depths of my soul to produce an ad for the Galaxy S22 Ultra, by featuring an adorable little spider being lovestruck by the phone. And I can’t stop thinking about it.

The ad tells a short tale of a cute little pet spider in an apartment falling in love with the back of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra in a huge billboard ad. Heartbreak ensues (AKA me yelling at the screen) when the billboard was painted over, denying the spider of its true love. But the ad does have a sweet and satisfying ending when the spider’s owner showed up with his own S22 Ultra device, so the spider sort of “reunites” with it.

“Not an actor, not a model, no—a little spider in love is the main character in our video. The story: The little arachnid—called Sam—sees an advertising poster for the new Galaxy S22 Ultra out of the terrarium window. It happened to her immediately. No wonder, because the camera lenses of the smartphone are the most beautiful “spider eyes” in the world for Sam. Accompanied by Nazareth’s classic “Love Hurts”, the spider experiences an emotional roller coaster ride. Because when the poster is suddenly exchanged, young happiness is threatened with an abrupt end. But since love is known to know no borders, the unusual love story still has a heart-rending happy ending. But see for yourself,” wrote Samsung Germany.

Basically, Samsung is banking on having the viewers of the ad compare the S22 Ultra’s multi-camera back with the many eyes of the spider. SoyaCincau BM’s writer Anep pointed out that the spider in the ad is specifically an enlarged “jumping spider“—distinguished by the eye pattern.

Anep also remarked that spiders usually have pretty bad eyesight, even with eight (or fewer) eyes. They rely instead on “touch, vibration, and taste stimuli to navigate and find their prey”—which Anep joked saying it explains why “their camera not as good as iPhone”.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra has recently been launched along with the rest of the devices in the Galaxy S22 lineup. For its camera department, it has a quad camera setup on the rear with an additional laser auto focus module with it. The main camera is a 108MP, f/1.8 shooter with dual pixel auto focus, a12MP, f/2.2 ultra wide camera, a 10MP, f/2.4 telephoto shooter with a 3x optical zoom, and another 10MP, f/4.9 telephoto camera capable of 10x optical zoom. Meanwhile, in the front of the device is a 40MP, f/2.2 front-facing camera for your selfies. You can read more about the device in Raymond’s write-up.

I’m an Apple user myself, but an ad like this made me feel so many emotions in a short period of time that I’m actually thinking about an Android phone. Am I going to make the switch? Probably not, but they’re pretty close to breaking me.
