OnePlus Nord CE 2 is launching on 17 Feb, headphone jack and microSD expansion slot are included

OnePlus is launching the OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G next week and it is their new mid-range 5G smartphone that still offers several favourite essential features. This will succeed the current OnePlus Nord CE 5G which was launched in Malaysia in June last year with a price starting from RM1,399.

The OnePlus Nord CE 2 will be unveiled on the 17th of February at 7pm India Time (9.30pm in Malaysia). The smartphone maker which was previously known for its flagship killer devices has dropped a couple of teasers on their social channels. From the Twitter video, they have confirmed that the new device will come with a 3.5mm headphone jack and a microSD card expansion slot that supports up to 1TB. The device also has support for Oppo’s 65W SuperVOOC fast charging via USB-C which claims to provide a day’s power in just 15 minutes on the cable.

Ahead of the launch, a purported product image of the OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G has already appeared online thanks to Yogesh Brar. The rear camera bump looks like an Oppo Find X3 and it features a triple-camera setup. In terms of hardware, the device is said to come with a 6.43″ Full HD+ AMOLED display that pushes a 90Hz refresh rate which is similar to the current Nord CE.

Instead of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G processor, the new Nord CE 2 is expected to run on a MediaTek Dimensity 900 that’s mated to 6GB or 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM along with 128GB of UFS 2.2 onboard storage. On paper, the purported camera setup appears to be somewhat similar as its predecessor with a 64MP main camera, 8MP ultra-wide-angle shooter, and a 2MP camera that now does macro instead of depth effects. The selfie camera appears to be unchanged with a 16MP front shooter. It still gets a generous 4,500mAh battery which now supports a higher 65W fast charging instead of 30W that was offered previously.

According to Yogesh, the device will run on Android 11 with OxygenOS 11.3, which is quite strange for a new 2022 device. Previously, Pete Lau, the CEO of OnePlus has shared his commitment to providing 3 major OS updates and 4 years of security updates for its flagship devices while its mid-range models like the Nord and Nord CE are getting 2 major OS updates and 3 years of security updates. Hopefully, OnePlus will up their game as Samsung has announced that it is offering up to 5 years of security updates and 4 major Android OS updates for its latest smartphone series.

Stay tuned for 17th February for the full details.
